McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance

Who are McKinney-Vento students?

McKinney-Vento eligible students are those who lack a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime shelter. This includes students and families who are living in motels, transitional housing, homeless shelters, cars, on the streets, or with family members/friends due to an unexpected loss of housing.

What are their rights?

By law, McKinney-Vento eligible students have the right to school choice (students may choose to stay in their school of origin after losing permanent housing), immediate enrollment, transportation assistance if applicable, free lunch, fee waivers, and hotspot devices for remote learning.
