West Chicago Community High School has selected Richard (Chad) Mayuga of West Chicago as Student of the Month for March 2023. He was selected by his teacher who said, “When I think of students who embody West Chicago Community High School's values and serve as a role model for others, the first person who comes to mind is Chad Mayuga. Friendly. Determined. Genuine. Kind. Smart. Open-minded. The list of words to describe Chad goes on and on. Chad is one of the hardest working students I have ever encountered, and always willing to go the extra mile to not only complete an assignment, but actually learn/take something away from the activity as well. He is the type of student who will get up to diagram something in the middle of a Socratic seminar to help his peers understand a line of thought, or lead a group project. He is a leader in every sense of the word, and an excellent student, too.
Chad is on the Honor Roll, earning a cumulative weighted grade point average (GPA) of 5.372. He is a member of the National Honor Society and received the Blue Ribbon Award for Outstanding Effort in Mathematics. Chad participates in Track & Field, Cross Country and Basketball. He also serves as a Student Ambassador and member of the Pep Club.
Outside of school, Chad works at the Everclean Car Wash, loading cars and taking care of facilities. He volunteers coaching for our feeder basketball program, packs meals at Feed My Starving Children assists with school events like WeGo Spooky and Breakfast with Santa.
When asked about his favorite high school memory, Chad said, “I think that would have to be my freshman year. Our homecoming football game we rushed the field before the game was over so they had to put us back in the stands. But once the game finally ended we rushed the field again and raised up one of the football players who was the [homecoming] King.”
Chad has this advice for future Wildcats, “Make sure you enjoy every moment and go and get involved in everything since these are the memories you're going to be looking back on.”
After graduation, Chad plans to go to University of Illinois Urbana Champaign to major in Recreation, Sport, and Tourism or Kinesiology. He hopes attend medical school to become a physician of Sports Medicine and potentially work for a professional team.
