Strep Throat on the Rise

Dear Parents/Guardians,

There is an emerging health issue that is being tracked by IDPH.  See the Parent Information regarding invasive group A streptococcus (GAS) infections.  We recommend if your student has any of the symptoms to promptly communicate with your student’s health care provider.  Also, please remind your students of the importance of good hand hygiene (washing hands frequently, especially after coughing, sneezing, eating or preparing food).  Cover their mouths when coughing or sneezing. Encourage your child to avoid touching their hands, mouth and eyes before handwashing.

If your student is diagnosed with GAS infection, they must stay home for 24 hours after antibiotics treatment has started.

Please contact the Health Office for any questions,

Nurse Cathy
