West Chicago Community High School has selected Gianna DeConcilis of West Chicago as Student of the Month for January 2023. Gianna was selected by her teacher who said, “Gianna exemplifies what it means to be a leader, role model, and Wildcat. She is hardworking and I see that she has the respect of her peers because she gives them the same respect.”

Gianna, a senior, has been on High Honor Roll every semester of her high school career, earning a cumulative weighted grade point average (GPA) of 5.556. She is an Illinois State Scholar, a member of the National Foreign Language Honor Society and the National Honor Society where she received the United Nations Community Service Award.

Gianna has been involved in Pep Club and was chosen to be a Pep Leader, helping organize and plan activities for sporting events and assemblies throughout the school year. She is also a Student Ambassador and has played Volleyball all four years, serving as the JV Captain last year.

Throughout the year, Gianna volunteers with Feed My Starving Children, Project CURE, and was the Committee Chair for the National Honor Society Breakfast with Santa. Over the summer, she assisted the Kid’s Volleyball Camp running drills and games to improve their skills; and previously volunteered with Mending Fences Farm Therapy.

Gianna works for MyChef, a catering company for weddings and other special events. She helps prepare for meal services and ensure that guests and venue owners have a successful experience.

When asked about her favorite high school memory, Gianna said, “My favorite high school memory would have to be winning the first place in Conference for volleyball my freshman year. Also, being a part of The Squad during the State soccer game and cheering on the team to a victory was a memory that I’ll never forget.”

Gianna has this advice for future Wildcats, “I would advise future WEGO students to just have fun and make the most of your high school experience. Getting involved is the easiest way to meet people who share similar interests and there is a club here at West Chicago for everybody. Don’t be scared to try new things because you might just find something you are passionate about. After all, you will never know until you try. I would also recommend attending as many sporting events as possible, because these are the times that make you feel like you are truly a part of the community.”

After graduation, Gianna plans to attend the University of Arizona to major in Nursing. She plans to pursue Pediatric Nursing or become a Labor and Delivery Nurse in the future.
