Daniel Canda Named April Student of the Month

West Chicago Community High School in Community High School District 94 has selected Daniel Canda of West Chicago as Student of the Month for April 2022. Canda was chosen for being a mentor and positive example, and for embracing everything WeGo has to offer including leadership roles in clubs, athletics, and in the classroom.

A senior, Canda has been on high honor roll or honor roll every semester of his high school career, earning a cumulative weighted grade point average (GPS) of 4.578. Canda is a member of National Honor Society.

A very involved student, Canda has served as a Student Ambassador and on the Student Activities and Athletics Leadership Team. With Speech Team, he placed 1st in Conference in Impromptu Speaking and was 3rd at Regionals. With Business Professionals of America, he qualified for nationals after earning 2nd place at State and 3rd place at Regionals in Ethics and Professionalism. Daniel has played baseball all 4 years of high school.

Outside of school, Canda has completed 25 hours of service for National Honor Society, helping with community events including Trunk or Treat and Spooky Night. He has also volunteered at Feed My Starving Children.

When asked about his favorite high school memory, Canda says, “…hosting the National Honor Society badminton tournament. It was so much fun and I enjoyed the process of getting everything together.”

Canda has this advice for future Wildcats, “GET INVOLVED. It will change your experience here at Wego. Take it from a kid who did not have a normal high school career. I wish I can get the year that I missed due to COVID back. However, I made up for it by doing everything my senior year. So all in all, try new things and find something that you enjoy here at Wego because I promise you, it will change your life, the same way that it did mine.”

After graduation, Canda has committed to Benedictine University to major in Business Management and Organization.
