WCCHS Students Chosen for All-State Production of "Cabaret"

West Chicago Community High School seniors Mikail Herrera, Vincent Lamantia, Elizabeth Ryan, and Jazmin Wilkins were chosen to participate in the All-State Production of “Cabaret”, the highlight of the Illinois High School Theatre Festival to be held January 6-8, 2022.

The Illinois High School Theatre Festival is the largest non-competitive high school theatre festival in the world.  The three-day Festival takes place at Illinois State University led by IHSTF Executive Director Judy Klingner. The All-State cast, crew, and pit orchestra is comprised of the top student performers, technicians, and musicians in the state of Illinois. “Cabaret” will be performed throughout the Festival and is the 45th All-State production that the Illinois Theatre Association has produced.

Elizabeth Ryan is the All-State Production Stage Manager, a huge honor. When asked what being a part of the All-State show means, Liz responds, “I love getting to work with people that share the same passion as I do and who care about making great art.”

Vincent Lamantia, a member of the All-State orchestra, adds, “Being a part of All-State has given me a brand new experience. This show has challenged and pushed as a musician whilst also granting me a new perspective and respect for the arts.”

Jazmin Wilkins plays a Kit Kat Woman and states, “I love being able to work with people who share the same passions and work ethic that I do. The connections here are so strong and unique that you can’t find them anywhere else.”

Mikail Herrera plays Cliff.  He states, “The opportunity to be a part of the All-State production is a blessing. I have learned so much the past four months and have grown as an actor.”

West Chicago Community High School is proud to have the most “All-Staters” in school history. The four West Chicago Community High School students were selected through auditions and interviews. There were hundreds of applicants from all areas of Illinois. They have been working through the fall with the company that represents the best in Illinois high school theatre.

The Illinois Theatre Association produces the Illinois High School Theatre Festival for the thousands of registered participants and is not open to the public.  For more information, contact Mark Begovich at mbegovich@d94.org or visit www.wegotheatre.com.
