West Chicago Community High School in Community High School District 94 has selected Swapna George of West Chicago as Student of the Month for October 2021. George was selected for her commitment to academics and activities, her ability to problem solve anything, and her willingness to help any Wildcat in need.
A senior, George has been High Honor Roll every semester of her high school career, earning a cumulative weighted grade point average (GPA) of 5.628. She has been an AP Scholar for the past 2 years and received an AP Scholar with Distinction award as a junior. George is a member and current Vice-President of National Honor Society. She is also a member of the Foreign Language Honor Society.
A highly involved student at WCCHS, George is a 4-year athlete in Girls Tennis, a member of the Math Team, serving as Vice President, and a member of Business Professionals of America serving currently as President. In addition, George is a member of Scholastic Bowl, and a member of Health Occupations Students of America. She also serves as a Student Ambassador.
Outside of school, George is involved in her church’s religious education program, and she volunteers as a member of the West Chicago Public Library’s Young Adult Council.
When asked about her favorite high school memory, George recalls the first day back to in-person school after quarantine. “Seeing everyone smile through their masks and being able to be in a classroom with my friends after nearly a year was truly an unforgettable experience.”
George has this advice for future Wildcats, “Work hard and play hard. High School might be some of the most worry-free years of your life, so don’t forget to enjoy that. However, it is also important to focus on academics and working hard in school – this is the time to get a good foundation for success in the future by getting good grades, gaining knowledge, and developing good study habits.”
After graduation, George plans to attend a 4-year university to major in Biology, ultimately going to medical school to become a dermatologist.
