At a special meeting held on Oct. 7, 2020, the Board of Education of Community High School District 94 appointed Katherine Doremus to fill the seat vacated by Lauren Scanlan in August. Doremus will be sworn in at the Oct. 20, 2020 Regular Board of Education meeting.
Doremus served on the District 94 Board of Education for 12 years from April 2007 to April 2019, serving as President from January 2010 to April 2013. All three of Doremus’ children graduated from West Chicago Community High School in the district.
“Through community involvement for the past 27 years, including 12 years on the Board, and on a personal level, a diverse family with some who are in the field of education, I have a fairly broad understanding of the needs of the students, faculty and community we serve,” Doremus said. “I hope this intricate knowledge can be of benefit to the decisions the Board will be making as we face our challenges. These are unprecedented times in education right now and there are difficult decisions facing the Board as we all try to navigate through dangerous waters for the safety and well-being of not just students, but staff. “
After attending Oak Park River Forest High School and Triton Junior College, Doremus graduated from the University of Colorado with a bachelor’s degree in English Literature. A mortgage banker for over 30 years, she is currently employed at Old Second National Bank in St. Charles. Doremus resides in Winfield.
Doremus will serve on the District 94 Board of Education until April 2021, when the remaining two years of the term (until April 2023) will be filled via election.
