West Chicago Community High School has selected Ruby Lebo of West Chicago as Student of the Month for September, 2020. Lebo was selected for outstanding leadership, participation in athletics and activities, and the positive energy she brings to WCCHS each day.
A senior, Lebo has been on High Honor Roll every semester of her high school career. She is an Illinois State Scholar, a member of National Honor Society and the Foreign Language Honor Society. Lebo has a cumulative weighted grade point average (GPA) of 5.571.
A very involved student, Lebo serves as a Student Ambassador, a ROAR mentor, and Snowball Leader. She is has been involved in the following clubs: Compass (currently President), Club Green, Health Occupations Students of America, WeGo Buddies, Wego Drama, and Wego Global. Lebo has played varsity soccer all four years and currently serves as Captain.
Outside of school, Lebo finds time to volunteer at the front desk at Central DuPage Hospital, with DuPage PADS, serve as a worship and group leader at church, and as a camp counselor out of state in the summer.
When asked about her favorite high school memory, Lebo mentions the Snowball retreat last year, “I loved being able to get to know your peers and teachers for who they really were, not just who they were in school. The small groups are designed as a place of vulnerability and encouragement, which allows everyone to care for and be cared for.”
Lebo has this advice for future Wildcats, “Find something to be happy about! Each day, make an effort to do something you love like attending your favorite club, or just listening to some good music. Make the most of what our high school has to offer. Try new things so you can find what you like and what brings you joy.”
After graduation, Lebo will attend college to major in Biology and minor in Spanish, ultimately entering a pre-med program. Her dream career is to be a medical missionary serving in South America.
