Leah Wheatley Named October Student of the Month

November, 2019

West Chicago Community High School has selected Leah Wheatley of West Chicago as Student of the Month for October, 2019. A senior, Wheatley was selected for working hard academically, being a leader in the building, and making WeGo an accepting place for others.

Wheatley has been on High Honor Roll every semester of her high school career. She has a cumulative weighted GPA of 5.361. Wheatley is a member of National Honor Society and the Foreign Language Honor Society.

Excelling in balancing academics and involvement, Wheatley is a Student Ambassador, a member of WeGo Drama, Horticulture Club, and Club Green. She also travelled to Costa Rica with the exchange program, and hosted a student from Costa Rica as well.

Outside of school, Wheatley volunteers with organizations that help people with special needs.

When asked about her favorite high school memory, Wheatley recalls, “Performing at the Illinois High School Theatre Festival. It was so amazing to be up on stage with my best friends, and to share with such a huge audience a show that we all worked so hard to perfect.”

Wheatley has this advice for future Wildcats, “Use this time to find what you’re passionate about. It’s never too late to get involved and make new friends. Take advantage of all the opportunities you are given here.”

After graduation, Wheatley plans to attend college and major in Psychology and Spanish, hoping to be a counseling psychologist and help people work through their personal challenges.
