Teacher Angela Gentile Named a Hero in the Classroom

November 7, 2019

Angela Gentile, a teacher in the Family & Consumer Sciences division at West Chicago Community High School, was recognized on Nov. 7, 2019 by Symetra’s Heroes in the Classroom program staff. Among the honors was a $2,000 donation for her classroom.

The Chicago Bears and Symetra continue to work together to honor the outstanding work and dedication of teachers in the Chicago area through the Symetra Heroes in the Classroom program. During the Bear’s season, exceptional K-12 teachers are surprised and honored at their schools, and also receive two tickets to a Bears home game, pregame sideline passes, a personalized Bears jersey, and a $2,000 donation for their classroom.

“Angela Gentile has been a rock-star teacher since she arrived at West Chicago Community High School four years ago,” said her nominator. “Teaching multiple courses in our Family & Consumer Science Department, she took curriculum that needed revamping and created vibrant, relevant learning activities that challenge students academically and require them to apply real world skills. In short, Angela Gentile embodies all that is good in teaching.”

Gentile, a WCCHS alumna, was honored at the Bears game on Sunday, Nov. 10, 2019. She included a shout out to our IHSA Class 3A State Champion Boys Soccer team.
