Dare to Scare Winners Announced

October 24, 2019

Thanks to 3rd grade students from Gary Elementary School and Pioneer Elementary School in District 33 for joining in our Dare to Scare event today! More than 150 third graders participated in face painting, story-telling, dracula-making, a guessing game, a ring toss game, and learned some Halloween safety tips, all provided by WCCHS students and LRC staff.

This project is also a writing contest for the WCCHS student population. There are two categories to enter: 1. A story to scare a 3rd graders, and 2. A story to scare your peers. Some of the student authors of the 3rd grade contest read their stories to the 3rd graders today. So, who won the Dare to Scare writing contest at WCCHS?

We had 119 authors submit stories in one or both categories. On behalf of the Language Arts department and the LRC we would like to thank all those for sharing their time and talents in submitting a story.

Congratulations to Viggo Krejberg for The Killer Clown he successfully scared his peers and teachers!

Congratulations to the following authors who received Honorable Mentions:  With Burning Wings by Owen Mantz, Katie by Hailey Nowicki, In the Eldritch Depths by Sam Nyberg, and Ghost Roses by Stephany Sanchez.

Congratulations to Raed Haroon for The Creature in the Dare to Scare a 3rd-grader category. During our Thursday morning Dare to Scare event Ali Adam won the best storyteller award for Sydney's Unforgettable 9th Birthday. Congratulations to Jazmin Alfaro, Ximena Avilla, Nicole Bute, Eleasar Centeno, and Hailey Nowicki for sharing their creativity with our future Wildcats.
