Washington Street Road Construction
Parents, students and staff who use Washington Street to get to West Chicago Community High School will need to find an alternate route soon. Work has begun on Washington Street, and Wood Street will soon be closed to traffic. Here are the details of the project:
Washington Street is currently closed between Clara Street and Wood Street
Through the month of August, 2019 construction will concentrate on work associated with the CN and UP at-grade rail crossings (between Clara Street and Wood Street). Washington Street will remain closed at the rail crossing, but Wood Street is open.
Wood Street will be closed between Church and Washington beginning approximately September 1
Around the first of September, 2019 (anticipated), we will move into “Phase 3” of the project (southern half of Washington Street) which will close Wood Street between Church Street and Washington Street for approximately 30 days and only east bound traffic will be allowed on Washington Street between Wood Street and Arbor Avenue. Washington Street will be open at the railroad crossing (east bound traffic only).
Approximately October 1 Wood Street reopens - Washington Street traffic will be east bound only
Once “Phase 3” is completed we will move onto “Phase 4” of the project (northern half of Washington Street) for approximately 30 days. Traffic will continue to be restricted to east bound only on Washington Street between Wood Street and Arbor Avenue; however, Wood Street will be open during “Phase 4”. At this time, I do not expect the project to be completed until mid-November 2019.
