Wego Drama Announces 2019-2020 Season

Wego Drama at West Chicago Community High School announces their 2019-2020 theatrical season, which includes an Illinois premiere. Tickets for all productions are available at

The season begins on Aug. 16-17, 2019 with the “New Directors’ Showcase.” This special studio program includes the one-act plays “The Greek Mythology Olympianganza,” “Boiling People In my Coffee,” and “One Lane Bridge”.

The first mainstage show of the season is the Illinois Premiere of “Puffs: or Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic and Magic.” The award-winning show by Matt Cox has been called by The New York Times, “A fast-paced romp for Potterphilliacs who grew up alongside Potter and are eager to revisit that world, ‘PUFFS’ exudes a jovial, winking fondness for all things Harry!” Never before performed on an Illinois stage, see it Sept. 5-7, 2019.

Next up with the season is “Petrifying Poe: A Radio Play.” This one-night only special event is Oct. 5, 2019.  The show takes the audience into the world of radio drama and builds incredible suspense with the classic stories of “The Tell-Tale Heart” and “The Fall of the House of Usher.”

The second mainstage show is the Tony and Olivier-winning play “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time.” The play by Simon Stephens, based on the book by Mark Haddon, tells the adventure of Christopher Boone, a math genius who happens to be autistic. The show, incredibly moving and powerful, will be performed Nov. 7-9, 2019.

Wego Drama performs a special show and partners with several school groups at Barnes and Noble Geneva Commons on Dec. 4, 2019. This evening has become a fun time for the entire community as a nice holiday season kick-off.

On March 13-14, 2020, Wego Drama presents its IHSA Showcase performance, premiering Illinois High School Association entries prior to competition. This evening includes a full show and a special “Group Interpretation” performance.

The final mainstage production is the annual musical. “Roald Dahl’s MATILDA” is the amazing story of a special young woman who inspires her classmates and community by standing up against injustices that she sees. “Matilda” is a familiar children’s story that has been adapted into an award-winning musical by Tim Minchin and Dennis Kelly. Performances are April 30, and May 1-2, 2020.

The season continues with a special Studio 94 performance, Adaptations and Adventures 2020.”  This evening of original plays is created by the Advanced Drama Students at WCCHS. The one-night only performance is May 7, 2020.

The final show of the 19-20 school year is the annual “Plays-In-A-Day Festival.” Every year this show is a crowd favorite. Drama students put together an entire show within 24-hours (a single day).  The annual event is May 16, 2020.

Additionally, Wego Drama is proud to represent the community, Illinois, and the United States at the 2020 Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland. This original production will be shown to our West Chicago community in July 2020.

Tickets are available for most of the shows at and via Wego Drama members. Shows are produced by arrangement with Music Theatre International, Samuel French, Dramatists Play Service, Nick Horn Books UK., Dramatic Publishing, and Playscripts Inc.
