Alexander Hey Named Academic Achiever for March
West Chicago Community High School has selected senior Alexander Hey of West Chicago as Academic Achiever for the month of March, 2019.
With a cumulative weighted grade point average of 5.49, Hey holds one of the top 10 GPAs among senior students at West Chicago Community High School. He received a Letter of Commendation from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation and he was named an AP Scholar with Distinction. Hey is an Illinois State Scholar, a member of the Foreign Language Honor Society, and has been on High Honor Roll every semester of his high school career.
A scholar athlete, Hey is the captain of the football team, and also played basketball, lacrosse and ran track. He is the Vice President of Student Council, is on the LifeSmarts National qualifying team, and is a member of Horticulture Club and Science Club. He also participated in the VFW’s Voice of Democracy audio essay contest.
When asked what he is most proud of in his achievements, Hey says, “My GPA and test scores make me most proud because it shows that it’s possible to balance your time.”
Hey shares the strategies he uses to balance his time: “Get your stuff done right away. Don’t waste time. I buckled down when I needed to, then after I’d always have time for fun.”
Hey has this advice for future WCCHS students, “Apply and challenge yourself. Get involved in sports and clubs, because there’s no other time that you’ll get an opportunity like this.”
Hey plans to major in Zoology or Wildlife Biology at Colorado State University, Hawaii Pacific University, or University of Southern California. He wants to work in animal conservation or as an exotic animal veterinarian.
