WCCHS Students Place 1st in Illinois LifeSmarts Competition
West Chicago Community High School finished in 1st place in the 23rd annual Illinois LifeSmarts competition on February 26, 2019. Members of the team include: Manav Patel (Captain), David Fatheree, Jeremy Grant, Alex Hey, and Max Kazmer. LifeSmarts tests students’ knowledge in the areas of personal finance, consumer rights and responsibilities, technology, health and safety, and the environment.
The team, along with their coach Don Zabelin, will now compete at the LifeSmarts National Competition taking place in Orlando, FL on April 13-16, 2019. The national competition will feature several rounds of competition including individual tests, creating a public service announcement, and solving challenges in 10 different LifeSmarts topic areas. The top 16 teams will then compete in a single elimination quiz bowl competition to determine the national champion.
WCCHS also had a second team compete in the state competition. Team members were Eric Briggs (Captain), Caleb O’Neil, Nathan Rutledge, and Emma Tully.
