West Chicago Community High School has selected Adam Hey of West Chicago as Student of the Month for December, 2018. A senior, Hey was selected for being an excellent student, for involvement in sports and student activities, and for working with students who are generally uninvolved and disenfranchised at school to help them find a place and a way to be engaged at WeGo.
Hey was named a Commended Student in the 2019 National Merit Scholarship program. An Illinois State Scholar, Hey is also a member of National Honor Society and the Foreign Language Honor Society. With a cumulative weighted GPA of 5.542, Hey has been on High Honor Roll every semester of his high school career.
A scholar athlete, Hey has played football, basketball, and lacrosse, and was named Academic All-Conference.
As a member of Student Council, he serves as the Officer of Public Relations. Hey also serves as a Student Ambassador, and is a member of the Math Team. In addition, this year he founded the WeGo Science Club.
Outside of school, Hey volunteers at a local food pantry. In the spring, summer and fall, Hey is employed as a little league umpire.
When asked about his favorite high school memory, Hey recalls, “Beating Streamwood my senior football season.”
Hey has this advice for future Wildcats, “Learn as much as you can in high school, take advantage of all of the college credit opportunities that exist through WCCHS because in college, it costs money!’
Although still undecided on which college he will attend, Hey plans to major in Astronautical Engineering, hoping one day to work for NASA or SpaceX.
