Gavin O'Keefe is November Academic Achiever
West Chicago Community High School has selected senior Gavin O’Keefe as Academic Achiever for the month of November, 2018.
With a cumulative weighted GPA of 5.556, O’Keefe has one of the top 10 GPAs among senior students at West Chicago Community High School. He has earned High Honor Roll status every semester of his high school career. O’Keefe is an AP Scholar with Honors, is a member of National Honor Society and serves on the Induction Leadership Team for National Honor Society, and is a member of the Music Honor Society and the Thespian Honor Society. O’Keefe was selected for the Illinois Music Educators Association District 9 Choir this fall.
Having mastered the balance between academic excellence and participation in extracurricular activities, O’Keefe is Co-President of Choir, Co-Student Director of Chamber Choir, and is a Section Leader in Marching Band. He is a member of Wego Drama and the Math Team, and serves as a Student Ambassador. Outside of school O’Keefe is a volunteer at his church, and is working towards the rank of Eagle Scout.
When asked what strategies or tools he uses to balance his time, O’Keefe mentions, “The most essential time management techniques I have boil down to attitude and motivation. Despite how busy one is, time can always be set aside for the most important aspects of life. Setting priorities and goals helps this process.”
O’Keefe’s advice for future students is, “Embrace the amazing community that Wego is. Get involved, find out what makes you happy, and work hard. The years fly by, so make sure to make the most of your time here!”
After graduation, O’Keefe plans to pursue a degree in Music Education. Although he has applied to many schools, his preferences are Vanderbilt University, Wheaton College, University of Illinois, or Case Western Reserve University.
