Mariana Lopez Named December Student of the Month

West Chicago Community High School in Community High School District 94 has selected Mariana Lopez of West Chicago as Student of the Month for December 2021. Lopez was chosen for academic excellence, leadership skills, and her dedication to helping others.

A senior, Lopez has been on High Honor Roll or Honor Roll every semester of her high school career, earning a cumulative weighted grade point average (GPA) of 5.270. She is a member of National Honor Society.

Lopez is a very involved student, serving as a Student Ambassador and a ROAR Mentor. She is a 4-year member of WeGo Global, serving on the Executive Board for the past 3 years. In addition, Lopez is active in Pep Club, Orchestra and Tennis.

Outside of school, Lopez volunteers as an intern at State Senator Karina Villa’s office and works part time as a cashier at a local sporting goods store.

When asked about her favorite high school memory, Lopez recalls, “Going to soccer games leading to state and watching more and more people come together and cheer for the same thing.”

Lopez has this advice for future Wildcats, “If there’s something you feel like you could be interested in doing, do it; you’re more likely to regret things you didn’t do rather than the things you tried.”

After graduation, Lopez plans to attend college to major in History with a minor in Spanish to become a teacher.
