What is AVID?

  • AVID stands for Advancement via Individual Determination.  AVID is offered for 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students who are motivated to go to a four-year university at the completion of high school.   AVID students are average to above-average, and with a little support can excel in Honors and Advanced Placement courses.  This support includes note taking, test preparation, tutorials, organization, and study strategies.

Throughout the year, AVID students participate in community service, visit college campuses, and help promote going to college throughout Community High School.  This program focuses on helping students rise to the next level, with the overall goal being admittance into a four-year university after high school.
