Standardized Testing
SAT Information
The SAT exam is administered to all juniors in the state of Illinois in April each year. It is an Illinois state graduation requirement. An exception to this is some special education students, who fall into “exception” categories.
ACT - American College Testing
The ACT contains five curriculum-based tests: the English, Mathematics, Reading, and Science Tests are standardized, multiple-choice tests based on the major areas of high school and post-secondary instructional programs; the optional Writing Test is an impromptu essay on a given prompt. Colleges use this data for recruitment, admissions, and course placement.
ACT vs. SAT - What's the Difference?
The ACT is an achievement test, while the SAT is an aptitude test. Check out this section in order to learn about the specific differences between these two college entrance exams.
AP - Advanced Placement
The AP Program currently offers more than 30 courses across multiple subject areas. By making it through an AP course and scoring successfully on the related AP Exam, you can save on college expenses. Currently more than 90 percent of colleges and universities across the country offer college credit, advanced placement, or both, for qualifying AP Exam scores. These credits can potentially save students and their families thousands of dollars in college tuition, fees and textbook costs, which can transform what once seemed unaffordable into something within reach.
ASVAB - Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery
The ASVAB is offered to high school and post-secondary students as part of the ASVAB Career Exploration Program. The program provides tools to help students learn more about career exploration and planning, in both the civilian and military worlds of work.
PSAT / NMSQT - Preliminary SAT / National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test
The Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) is a program cosponsored by the College Board and National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC). It's a standardized test that provides firsthand practice for the SAT. It also gives students a chance to enter NMSC scholarship programs and gain access to college and career planning tools.
