Employment Career Training
Every year your student is at West Chicago, their IEP team will be reviewing an important piece of the IEP - the transition plan. This document helps us plan for your student's future and helps the IEP team put you in touch with the necessary resources in order to assist with that future. One of the four pieces of this transition plan is regarding employment and career training.
Below are a list of resources within our community for employment/career training. While this is not an exhaustive list, we wanted to highlight these as a starting point.

DHS's Division of Rehabilitation Services is the state's lead agency serving individuals with disabilities. DRS works in partnership with people with disabilities and their families to assist them in making informed choices to achieve full community participation through employment, education, and independent living opportunities
The Illinois Department of Human Services provides a myriad of services including vocational rehabilitation to assist people with disabilities in preparing for and finding quality employment, the Work Incentive Planning & Assistance Program to help individuals who receive SSI or SSDI make informed choices about going to work and Day Services for People with Developmental Disabilities, providing skill training or job coaches to help people with developmental disabilities succeed in the workplace.
Illinois workNet is sponsored by Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity and made possible through state, local, and private sector partnerships to provide job placement and referrals, unemployment insurance, employment and training programs, career and labor market information, payroll tax filing, and more.
Services provided by PAEP are based on the philosophy that all individuals have the right to work in the communities in which they live. PAEP provides a variety of programs and services to individuals with developmental disabilities including career counseling, job training and preparation, job development, job placement, and job coaching and follow-up. Each of the unique services assists individuals with disabilities develop secure career plans, enter into and retain community employment.

Located in Lisle, IL, the WorkNet DuPage Career Center is home to several organizations working in partnership toward the same goals: helping people get to work, and maintaining a skilled workforce for DuPage County.
An extensive range of services is provided to both job seekers and employers. Job seeker services include scholarships for job training programs, job search workshops, career counseling, a job search resource center, and more. Employer services include workforce training grants, a resume database, free job posting, assistance for workers being laid off, and more.
