The Social Studies Department provides students with opportunities to improve reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills through historical and current case studies. Students will learn to think critically, defend their positions with evidence, and engage in civil discourse. All students will participate in a Geography course freshman year, a World History course sophomore year, an American History course junior year, and American Government senior year. A wide variety of electives gives Wildcats a chance to learn in depth about groups in our society (Sociology), individual personality and brain (Psychology), crime (Criminal Justice), our federal monetary system (Economics and AP Economics), and how to think (Philosophy).
West Chicago Community High School was one of the first in the state to be recognized as an Illinois Democracy School and is also the only school in Illinois recognized as a Whole School Model for Civic Education by the Civic Mission for Schools. The video below highlights why WCCHS was chosen for those honors.
The Social Studies teachers are listed on the right side of this page, along with their contact information.
