Dear Community High School District 94 Families and Community Members,

Welcome to the start of the 2025-26 school year at Community High School District 94! We are incredibly excited to welcome our students back to campus and embark on a year of growth, learning, and success. As we begin this new chapter, we are proud to share our new strategic plan, which will serve as a roadmap to guide our collective efforts for the future.

This plan is a reflection of our commitment to ignite a passion for learning, foster leadership and responsibility, and empower all learners to live their personal best. It is a living document built on the shared vision of our community, focusing on five key goals.

#1 - Student Growth & Achievement: Our primary goal is to ensure every student has a personal pathway to academic success. This includes equipping students, staff, and families with the programs and practices needed to close academic achievement gaps.

#2 - Student Sense of Belonging & Accountability: We are dedicated to providing all students with a relevant, rigorous, respectful, and reflective learning environment. A key strategy involves offering programs and practices to close current social, emotional, and physical non-academic gaps. We will also work to improve attendance, reduce chronic absenteeism, and enhance student engagement and motivation.

#3 - Employee Sense of Belonging & Accountability: Our employees are at the heart of our success, and we aim to nurture a workplace where they feel connected, motivated, and accountable. We will work to retain our most successful employees through competitive compensation, professional growth opportunities, and recognition. We will also enhance our use of data to communicate with all stakeholders and understand changes in performance over time.

#4 - Communication, Engagement, & Partnerships: We believe in partnering with our families and the wider community to provide all learners with the support and real-world experiences they need to thrive. We will provide more opportunities for engagement with the school and district and partner with our associate elementary school districts to ensure students are ready for high school.

#5 - Fiscal Stewardship & Resource Alignment: We are committed to the effective use of our resources to align with the district's focus on student success. This includes reimagining how we use our time, space, technology, and financial resources to better meet the future needs of our students and enhance both teaching and learning

Our strategic plan is also defined by three key portraits that describe the aspirations for our students, staff, and our entire organization. These portraits are a fundamental part of our vision, providing a shared understanding of what it means to be a learner, an educator, and a system within our district.

The Portrait of a Graduate outlines the attributes we aim to cultivate in every student by the time they leave our halls. We want our graduates to be critical thinkers, inclusive collaborators, and effective communicators. We also strive for them to be responsible decision-makers, self-directed and confident learners, and empathetic and resilient friends.

The Portrait of an Educator describes the qualities we value in our faculty and staff. Our educators are student-centered advocates, team players, and lifelong learners. They are also ethical decision-makers, problem solvers, and empathetic and resilient mentors.

The Portrait of a System defines the characteristics of our district's operational framework. It focuses on continuous improvement, strong relationships and safety, and innovation and relevance. This portrait also emphasizes learner interests, voice and choice; collaboration and engagement; and stewardship and accountability.

These portraits ensure our mission and vision are not just words on a page, but a clear set of values that guide our daily actions and future decisions. We invite you to join us in this exciting journey as we strive to prepare today's Wildcats to become tomorrow's leaders, designers, and builders.

Sincerely,

Dr. Kurt Johansen
