The goal of the Teaching and Learning Department is to ensure that Community High School’s vision of Living, Learning and Leading is a reality for all students. The department focuses on methods for teaching content and disciplinary literacy skills necessary for students to be successful beyond high school. Students learn both content and disciplinary literacy skills through the tight alignment between standards, curriculum, instruction and assessment. The alignment for each course is documented in the curriculum maps developed for each course and follows the Understanding by Design model. Best practices in curriculum, instruction and assessment are promoted through the use of the Project CRISS Framework for Teaching and Learning.
