KATHLEEN W. — Moderate Republican

My name is Kathleen W., I was born in Pekin, Illinois at the local hospital, on September 13,1983. 3 years after I was born my family moved to Glendale Hieghts. My family lived there for 2 years then we moved to West Chicago. We have been living here for 13 years. I have 3 older sisters and a dog. I started working at the age of 15, I worked at an after school program for little kids, through the West Chicago Park District, then as a lifeguard, then as a cashier at Hobby Lobby. Now I have a job at Winfield Family Dentistry, in Winfield.

I consider myself a moderate republican. I side with most of the issues on the republican side, but I also agree with some democratic issues. One issue that I totally agree with on the republican side is abortion. One democratic issue that I agree with is graduated taxes. People who can not afford to pay 15% for taxes shouldn't have to. I also am against capital punisment. As for distibution of wealth, I dont think that people should get money handed to them, but that they should someway earn it. No matter what the distibution of wealth will never be equal, no matter how hard the government tries to make it even. There will always be people who earn more money than others, that will never change. I think that in order to have better programs and more programs we should have higher taxes. I also believe that schooling should be state funded, and that everyone should get the same oppertunities for schooling. Just because you live in a wealthy area doesn't mean that you should get better teachers or better schooling opertunities that a middle class person shouldn't also have.

As for the issues, I am pro-life, the only exception for an abortion is if the mother or yhe child's life is in danger. A woman shouldn't have an abortion if she made a bad decision and doesn't want to take the responsibility for what she did. that is totally unexceptable. If it comes down to it and either life is in danger, then thats a hard decision for the mother and father to make. If a woman is raped, then she should still have to carry out the preganacy, then if she wants to then she could go give up her child for adoption. Plus in the case of incest, that's a pretty sick issue. People who are sick in the head are the only ones who do nasty things like incest. If you are that sick and you have sex with a family member that you should still have your child. The child might be messed up, but that's a price you have to pay for being pretty sick yourself. As for censorship, I dont think that there should be any censorship, it is like you are depriving the public of what they want to hear and they have a right to hear. If people dont want to hear something thats on the radio, then they should turn off the radio. When poeple hear something that they find offensive, then they just shouldn't listen. I think that there is alot of poverty. In order to help with poverty, the government should only help poverty stricken people who try to help themselves. No one should have money handed to them. People who are not poverty stricken have to earn money someway, then so should the poverty stricken. They should have to earn money just like everyone else in America. As for distribution of wealth, I think if people who are very well off have alot of money just sitting in the bank and they are never going to spend it or use it, it should go for a greater cause. That's crazy that people are so money grubbing that they wont share their wealth with the less fortunate. That's what is wrong with the society today, is that people are money hungry and that makes them only care about having the most money and keeping it for themselves. As for enviromental issues, I think that if there is a natural disaster the government should pay for it, not just the state. If someting happens in one state than it could have reprcussions on the next state over and so on and so on. All enviromental problems should be handled by the government.

RYAN V. — Republican

I was born in Glendale Heights but shortly moved to Carol Stream where I have lived since. I went to Benjamin School. I used to play a lot of sports but now I just hang out or work. We usually just drive around and do whatever. A lot of times we will go out to eat, like to Wendy or something.

I would consider myself a moderate republican. This is because although I side with republican issues, there are a few main democratic issues that I must agree with. My main beliefs are that more power should be given the people instead of the federal government. I also think that people should be free to make as much money as they want. Poorer people should not be exempt from penalties the rich take part in. Everyone should be treated the same.

One big view that I strongly believe in is the legalization of Marijuana. I think that it should be legal for both medicinal and recreational use. It also should not be taxed because I believe that many users of the herb would grow it themselves and not for the sale to others.

JENNIFER P. — Republican

I was born June 25, 1984 at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, IL. I have lived in the same house in Unincorporated West Chicago all my life. I have played soccer since I was in kindergarten, and volleyball since 6th grade. I have played on the Volleyball team at WEGO all four years. I play year round on a club volleyball team. I attended Evergreen Elementary School 1-4, Benjamin Middle School 5-8, and West Chicago Community High School for 3 years and am finishing up my last year finally. I hope to attend the University of Illinois in the Fall and major in Pre-Vet. I hope to own my own animal hospital some day and be very successful.

I am a Republican. I declare this party because I fall on the right side of the spectrum for almost every single issue. I strongly agree that the local/state governments should have more control. They understand and know more about an area and can help on a more intimate level their community. I also feel that our government needs to put the U.S.A. first as far as security situations and our economy. Especially with all that's going on with the attack on America. Our security here in the U.S.A. needs to be picked up and reinforced so that people like these terrorist can not get by us and destroy so many peoples lives. I also am strongly for traditional values and feel that religion is a very important part in someone's life. There should not have to be a separation between church and state. I am pro-life and see no exception what so ever in that area. I also believe that when order is needed we must call the police to help, to make sure that order is maintained.

As far as some issues that I feel very strongly for, abortion is among them. I am strongly against abortion and feel that one of the major problems in our society today is people not wanting to take the consequences for their actions. I feel to many people care about themselves only and not enough about others. People should understand what they are getting into before and think about what possible consequences or outcomes they may have to deal with in the end. There is no reason for murder. It is not another human beings decision of whether or not someone should live or die. There are other options if one feels they can not keep a child. I also feel that if you are not responsible enough to take care of a child then you definitely should not be out having sex and creating a life, which you will just end up doing the irresponsible thing with. If you murder a baby after it is born, you are called a murderer. If you murder a baby inside the mother's womb you should also be called a murderer. Ending someone's life no matter when you do it is the same thing. I do understand there are situations when the woman is not in control of whether or not she gets pregnant such as rape or incest. It is not her fault that something like rape happened to her but it is also not the child's so why should he/she be punished either. There are always other options such as adoption. Many families with loving parents are waiting out there to adopt a child. There are so many adoption agency that you could get connected with to help you make the best choice for you. You could pick the parents and family for this baby, and even whether or not you want to hear about how the child is doing. Another problem I find in our society today is people being to disrespectful towards one another. I feel that most people don't realize how far a smile or a hello goes. When you treat someone harshly it can only hurt them. You never know how far someone has been pushed and where they are when you contribute to that hurt. Many fights, suicides, and murders are results from this. I feel that it is very unnecessary to treat those around you like they are not equal. We were all created equal and should act like that. If some people would just take the time to get to know one another they would learn that many of their peers, friends, and family members are dealing or have dealt with same problems or issues that you are. As a country, a nation, we need to stand strong all help each other out here first. We need to increase security and protect those in America before we go out and help other places. I also feel very strongly for not having a separation of church and state. Religion is such an important part of someone's life and they should be able to glorify God wherever they like. People say well if it is a public school it is not fair to some people who don't believe in God to have to hear about God and therefore it shouldn't be talked about. However it is ok for those who are against God or atheist to proclaim that and share that they don't. I feel that traditional values should be respected and those students who live their life for Christ should be allowed to share that and let it be known if they wish.

KEVIN S. — Republican

I attend west Chicago community high school. Some of the thing I like to in my free time is work on small engines. I'm now building a go-cart from scratch. I also like to drive my golf cart and tweak it so it goes faster. I work at dial one may electric. I plan to become an owner of an electrical company. DODGE IS THE BEST!

I'm on the right side of the spectrum, which makes me a republican. As an American I am concerned with many things that go on in the US and I think that some things need to changed to help out the US. One big thing needs to be changed is foreign aid. The government gets too caught up in what is going on in other foreign countries that we don't really know what is going on in the US. We need to take care of the US before we go and start to hand out money when we could use the money too. Crime and violence in the us keeps getting to be more and more and not less. Our system of jails and courts should harder on crimes and violence they get sent to jail for a couple of years and they get out to do what ever they want. Getting out on good behavior that is just wrong. They have to do is sit in there jail cell and we let them get out early no.

Some strong points I have are taxes and federal and local government. Taxes should be decreased we should get rid of income tax and keep store tax or some thing you work hard to make your money and it is not right that some can come and take your money at the end of the year. We to keep taxes but we need to reduce it. The other thing is that the federal government cant take care for all the states some have special needs that need to take care of and the federal government does not have time too work out all of the small problems. One day all the terrorists will be taken care of and we will be able to move along with life.

STEVEN S. — Democrat

Welcome to my homepage. my name is steven s and i attend at west chicago community high school. some hobbies i have are snowboarding, going to the movies, and hanging out with my friends. right now i work at blockbuster. after i graduate i plan to go to college of dupage and study crimal justice.

i believe strongly in peoples rights. i believe that taxes are a must. i believe we should have a strong federal government.

on the political spectum im on the left side. i am a moderate democrate. I believe in pro-choice if you want to have an abortion i believe the woman should have the choice. i also disagree with the death sentence i believe if somebody murders people they should have to stay in prison for the rest of their lifes because killing them is the easy way out for them because they dont have to live with what they did. i also believe the government have to much power and i believe that the state governments should have more power. i believe federal government needs to lower the taxes because i believe they dont need to use are money on some of the programs they have.

ERICA D. — Democrat

I'm Erica D. I just transfered over to this school from Wheaton Academy. I attended St. John Lutheran in Wheaton from k-8 grade. I was born in Evanston, Il but I have lived in West Chicago all my life. I've had the opportunity to go to Florida a number of times, as well as Indiana, Tenessee, Kentucky, Georgia, and the Bahamas. I've also been to the Wisconsin Dells, Las Vegas, and Iowa. My hobbies include music/guitar, acting/theatre, poetry, dancing, painting etc. spending time w/ boyfriend and friends. I work at Great Clips in Wheaton and have been there for 2 years. I graduate in Jan. after that, in Sept., I'm planning on going to Northwestern Univ. to study drama/theatre!

I feel that the government should have limited amounts of power. "The government that governs the least, governs the best." They should take care of people and be open to help such as disability, welfare, etc. We should concentrate more on our country than interfering with other countries all the time. It is good to help other countries, but we need to make sure we got ourselves together before we can jump into other countries' problems. The people should have power and a say so in laws etc. The governmant does not have the right to tax your income. That is your money you worked for it, and the government needs to back off and stop getting into everybodys' business.

As for my political views, I would have to say that I am more on the left of the political spectrum. I am all about freedom and respect for privacy. I feel very strongley about certain issues such as CENSORSHIP, DEATH PENALTY, AND DRUG/underage "drinking" issuses. Censorship is wrong, violation of the bill of rights. Death penalty=murder=wrong, violation of the 8th amendment. Drinking age is very stupid. in a lot of European countries crime and alcoholism is lower beacuse there is nothing special or thrilling about drinking. I like what they are doing in WI. you are allowed to drink if you are with your parents or spouse. The government needs to back off and mind their own buisness. Just because they are the government doesn't give them the right to tell you what you can and can't do in the privacy of your own home/life. If people aren't allowed to have a drink at the age of 18, then they shouldn't be able to die for their country either!!!

KAREN G. — Democrat

Hi! My name is Alma Karen and I am better known as Karen. I was born in Mexico City on March 10, 1984. I enjoy writting poems and listen to music. I mostly enjoy being around babies. I am saving money so that I can move to a bigger house with my family. I plan to get married at the age of 22.

I have declared my self to be a Moderate Democrat. I feel that the Government has to interfere in a lot of things. If the government said nothing and did nothing then there would be no equal rights. I feel that minimun-wage is a good thing. If there was no minimun wage companies would be paying verry little for verry hard jobs. I think that one of the major issues economy has is RACISM. There is so much racism between people. I believe that everyone should be treated equal. Also that the government should help out any one and everyone.

One of the issues that make me a Moderate Democrat is that I am PRO-CHOICE. I strongly belive that it is the women's choice. I don't agree that the government or other people should make the women's decision. It is the women's body and concience. I also believe that there should be stricter gun control rules. Finaly, I don't think that the death penalty is a good way. I believe that by killing someone you are just giving them the easy way out. They should have to stay in jail for a long while, and think about what they have done.

JOHN C. — Democrat

My name is John C. I was born in Glendale Heights on May 24, 1984. I just moved here to West Chicago about a year ago. I'm not sure how long I'll be living here. I've had very little travel experience except for last summer when I went to Mexico with my girlfriend for two weeks. My plans for the future include waking up tomorrow and getting my boss fired because he doesn't have any clue what hes doing.

I'm a strict Democrat and I am for a progressive tax rate. I am for the most part pro-choice and I also am against capital punishment because I personally think that one right that all Americans should have and can never be taken away by the government is the right to their own life. I think the government should be involved in business affairs and to regulate it for employee rights and safety. I also think the government should play a bigger part in our lives with medical benefits for all taxpaying citizens.

One of the most important issues to me is pollution. The United States is one of the world's leading air pollutants and water pollutants and their should definitely be more regulations on what is released into the environment because that eventually effects everybody. Another important issue is Social Security, I personally have no ideas on how to solve the future problem but all I know is if I'm paying for it now I expect it to still be around when I need it.

DAISY S. — Democrat

My name is Daisy S. and I was born on October 8,1984 in Winfield at Central DuPage Hospital. The farthest place I have traveled to is Monterrey, Mexico, but I have been to other states of the United States. I attended Turner, Lincoln, Gary, and West Chicago Middle School. I enjoy singing, dancing, and playing most sports. I like helping others if I can. So, after high school I plan on going to the University of Illinois at Champagne-Urbana to pursue a career in Social Work.

I believe to be on the left side of political spectrum. I tend to agree more with what the democrats beliefs are on many issues. One of the main reasons I am a Democrat is because I believe that everyone is entitled to their rights, and in order to do that we need a strong federal government. I believe that the government should insure that everyone has an equal chance to succeed in society.

I am no doubt a liberal when talking about capital punishment. I am strongly against it no questions asked. I don't think that anyone has the right to take anyone's life away. Our country is against the murder, but yet allows there to be the death penalty. Isn't that the same thing? I believe that the death penalty should not be used! I think that by sending someone to death is like giving them the easy way out. These people should suffer for the murders that were done. There have been times when someone has been accused of committing a crime and was not guilty of it. By using the death penalty we might be killing an innocent person. With putting them in prison for life they will be able to realize their mistake and regret it.

I feel that there should be stronger laws of gun control. So many innocent children have died because an adult didn't know how to put away their weapon. I believe that there should be stricter gun-control laws. Why should an innocent person pay the price for an irresponsible adult? With stricter gun-control laws I think that we can avoid some of these problems. 5Another issue that places me on the left side of the political spectrum is taxes. I feel that taxes should be based on how much you make. Those who earn more amount of money should pay more. By asking those not in the high class you aren't allowing them to make any progress by having flat taxes.

MAGGIE K. — Moderate Democrat

My name is Maggie. I was born in West Chicago, but I have traveled all over the U.S. Most of the time it is to visit family. I have attended Lincoln School, Pioneer School, West Chicago Middle School, and West Chicago Community High School. In my free time I enjoy being outside. I walk my dog and hike. I also enjoy sports but lack any skill in them. I also find astrology interesting. I work at Jacobsen's Flowers as a cleaning girl. I also do yard work for some of my neighbors. After high school I plan on going to college somewhere nearby to study math. I would eventually like to be a math teacher.

I am a moderate democrat. I believe the government does have the duty to equalize society. However, in some cases the government needs to allow society to change by itself. The government can't move faster than society is ready for. Economically I am to the left because I think the government has the responsibility to help economy. I am very much to the left when it comes to individual's rights. I am pro-choice, for freedom of expression, pro-privacy, and against things like pro-police, capital punishment, traditional values.

One issue I feel very strongly about is the environment. I believe the government has the responsibility to protect our world. No one else really looks out for it. The world is our life and needs to be protected just as much as other parts of our lives. If we didn't have the Earth, none of us would be here. Another issue I feel rather strongly about is capital punishment. I don't think it is a valid way to punish. Most people punish themselves for mistakes they've made unless they have mental problems. If they are rehabilitated, they may have a chance for a normal life, something that they must not have had before. However, there are exceptions to the rule. Based on individual cases, they should be punished and rehabilitated. All people should have the right to be forgiven. Everyone makes mistakes and sometimes it isn't their fault. I am also pro-choice. However, I think there should be some restrictions on it. It shouldn't be used as birth control. I think it should be a decision between the woman and the doctor. If a woman has good reasoning for the abortion it should be allowed. I don't think that third trimester abortions should be allowed though. The woman should decide in the beginning of the pregnancy what she wants to do. It shouldn't be necessary in the third trimester.

LAURA M. — Moderate Democrat

My name is Laura and I was born on December 16, 1983 in Mexico. My parents divorced when I was two years old. I've lived in West Chicago since I was five years old. I live with my mom, my stepfather, and three half-siblings. I went to Gary School just for kindergarten. Afterwards, I went to Pioneer School and then West Chicago Middle School. I like to play basketball and soccer. I also like to draw and I'm pretty good at it. I've been on the French Club since my sophomore year, and right now I'm in French 4. I work on the weekends only at Wynscape, old folks' home in Wheaton. After high school I plan to go to a four-year college, but I'm undecided if I'll go out of state. I have always wanted to study law.

PARTY: I consider myself a moderate Democrat because I agree with most of the left's ideas. I believe the federal government should have more power than the state government. I think the United States would no longer be united if each state were given more power. As far as taxes, I support the system we have today. It's not fair to take the same amount of money from someone that's rich and someone that's poor. With the flat tax, the poor lose more than the rich do. The gap between the rich and the poor would only increase. Another issue that puts me towards the left of the spectrum, is the United States involvement in foreign affairs. I think it is to our advantage to promote democracy to other countries. However, the U.S. should be concerned with our problems first and then help others.
ISSUES: There are other issues I feel strongly about. First, I disagree with racial profiling because it's discrimination. Despite any statistics, you can't judge a whole race based on the actions of some people. I have never broken the law, but other people of my race have. I don't think it's fair that I should have to pay the consequences of people that I don't even know. As a Mexican, I obviously favor a multicultural society. I guess this is another reason why I favor the Democratic Party. I think people should be allowed to keep their culture. Republicans don't want to shake up society, and restore traditional values. I understand that immigrants should try to adopt the American culture. However, it is possible to be part of more than one culture. Another issue I feel strongly about is pro-choice. It is a woman's right to have an abortion. As a female, I wouldn't want someone to tell me what I can and cannot do with my body. I think there should be some restrictions on abortion like the number of abortions a woman can have.

ABAD R.— Democrat

To begin, I was born in Aurora IL. I moved to West Chicago after kindergarten year and been here ever since. I haven't traveled much my whole life but wish to after high school. When I was five my parents took me to Mexico to meet my relatives but I don't remember much. I like to run and was on the WeGo track team then I hurt my Knee. Now I only run on occasion but play basketball as much as I can.

I believe in the rights of the individual and to insure those rights there must be a strong government. I believe that everyone's values are different and values change as time changes. Also a main belief of not discriminating people based on color, race religion, or gender.

The issue that makes me know I'm more to the democratic side is the abortion issue. On this issue I believe that the individual has the right to choose whether the fetus should live or die. Another issue is poverty and whether the government should help the poor or not. To help the poor is to help our economy. The more people we get to work the stronger the economy will be. Also the nicer the neighborhoods will get because it would have a domino effect. Censorship should not exist because people should be free to express themselves. I think that children should not be exposed but is the parents' responsibility to prevent it.

RAUL M. — Democrat

My name is Raul M. I lived in California most of my life, but three years ago my parents decided to move here. I'm a senior and I play for the boys' varsity soccer team. I had work in several places, but rather do sports than work. My goals are to go to college and play for the college soccer team and one day became a professional soccer player, but for now study hard so I can graduate this June.

I Raul M. believe that the government should be the equalizer of society, and that everyone in society is entitled to have their needs met, for example go to school(have equal opportunity of education)and equal chances to succeed. I'm a democrat and be

JOHN B. — Republican
I was born and raised in West Chicago, IL. I have traveled a lot in my life. I have been to Europe twice, and I've been to basically every state in the US. My dad is a pilot so I have grown up around airplanes. I can fly quite well, yet I probably won't get my license; I'm not all that motivated to fly. I have no idea where I'm going to college, but I hope to be a lawyer. My days are really packed but when I get some free time I like to go out with my girlfriend or just chill with my friends. Sometimes I play video games. I like music a lot. My favorite bands are Sublime and Rage Against the Machine, but I am very open to different kinds of music.

This was a very difficult decision, but I have decided that I belong on the right side of the political spectrum with the other republicans. I am very much for a smaller government. Our government is so big that it controls almost all parts of our society; The government should be smaller so that it does not get involved as much in the peoples' affairs. The people are able to run their own lives. I also believe in the freedom to make as much money as you can. Why should our people be limited by taxes and anti-capitalism? I am also for a flat tax. Once again, why should we be limited by taxes? Why should the rich be punished for being innovative or educated? To take money from the rich to pay for the poor is called Communism, and we've all seen how well that works. I believe that by over taxing the people the government creates a hating and untrusting view of the government. I'm also for flat-tax because I think that in order to shrink the government we need to first cut its income, which at this point is huge. I also believe in retaining a large military force, which we need to accurately defend America and its people. Look at the situation our country is in now, we need an army so that we can counter-strike as fast as possible, but because Clinton cut funding to the military our country is left practically unguarded. In contrast to the Republican view, I am also for holding on to our social and political rights. When asked the question: would you sacrifice rights for the sake of safety, I would definitely say no. I don't agree with locker searches, gun control, or the pro-life stance. I think that the American people should have their rights of privacy and choice upheld. According to most political spectrum quizzes, I am a liberalterian. But since my only choices are democrats or republicans, I will have to side with the republicans primarily on the basis of creating a smaller government.

I think our government is getting too large. I am happy to see Bush in power because I hope that he shrinks the government. I also hope that our federal taxes switch to a flat tax because why should the rich pay more while the poor pay practically nothing. I am bothered by the government's movement to take the peoples' rights; such as gun control and students rights. I think that the government is starting to infringe on the Americans rights through random locker searches and police sobriety checkpoints. If this goes unchecked America will be no better than other police states.

DANIELLE D. — Moderate Republican

Hi...my name is Danielle. Well as for my life...I was born May 29th 1984, at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield Illinois. I live with mom and dad and my twin sisters, Michelle and Melissa; I also have a sister, Jennifer, who lives in Woodridge with her fiance. I have lived in West Chicago for 17 years in the same house. I attended Gary Elementary School and Currier Elementary School, I went to West Chicago Middle School and well now I am a SENIOR at WCCHS.I work at The West Chicago Terrace and when I am not working I like to spend most of my free time with friends and family. After High School I plan to go to college and major in nursing.

I am a moderate Republican. I declare this party because there are many issues that place me on the right side of the political spectrum. Although I do agree with some issue that places me on the left side of the political spectrum, therefore I am a Moderate Republican. I think people should have more rights and decisions in which that issue places me on the left side. I believe local/state government should have more sower because they understand and know about the state and laws would be made regarding issues that state might have. I also think the United States should come first before any other country. We need to make sure our country is stable before we go out and help others. I believe that you have the right to all the profit you can possibly make and that the government can not regulate profits from business and therefore have the right to choose how to spend it. Those who make more money should not be punished by having to pay more in taxes.

I have many issues that are important to me. I strongly agree with Pro-Life. I believe that abortion is murder and there are exceptions. An unborn child is a human being and all human beings have feelings, emotions and the right to live. I also have strong beliefs, with prayer in schools. I think prayer should be allowed in school as long as you don't enforce your religion onto others that may believe otherwise. I think welfare needs more restrictions because too many people are abusing the system.

BLAKE K. — Republican

I was born in Winfield, IL and then moved to Mesa, AZ. In 1986, I moved to Glendale Heights. In the fall of 1987, we moved to West Chicago. My hobbies include playing hockey (outside school), listening to and playing music. My future plans include possibly going to college. Maybe COD or Robert Morris College. I don't know my exact major I want to have, but I know I want it to be something to do with computers. Possibly a Computer Programmer. I am a Repulican. Well, more like a Moderate Rebublican. I see myself as a Republican because I believe in the views and the ways that republicans feel. I feel like a republican because I agree with the things republicans agree with like not abolishing Capital Punishment, having flat taxes instead of graduated taxes. My attitude and views towards capital punishment are definetly republican because I think we should keep it like if someone commits a crime that deals with murder, the person convicted should also have to die. My views on flat taxes are that they are better so people only have to pay one equal tax amount instead of having it based on your income. People earned that money, they don't deserve to have it taken away because a lower class citizen doesn't want to pay more. I say, towards distribution of wealth, that everyone is equal, so they should get paid equally, not on race, although I don't really agree with affirmative action because I think it depends on the better man gets the job not because someone thinks it's discriminating not to pick someone becauseof their race. I agree with a free market, because I think markets deserve to put their own prices on items, not the government. I think we need government when it comes to dealing with society's problems because after awhile, they'll just raise taxes. I think state governments should get the power over federal because each state deserves to run it the way they want and if people don't like it, they can move. I think there is too much crime and we need to do something about it. We need to catch the criminals and punish them rightfully for their crimes. I don't like poverty. I don't think people deserve to live that way, but I don't want to keep paying for soemone elses welfare. I disagree with cencorship because that's going against our right of speech. If someone has something to say, they deserve to be heard. If certain people don't like it they don't have to listen. I feel both ways on abortion. If someone gets pregnant and they want to get rid of the child, they could put it up for adoption or just raise it because it's their faultthey didn't wear protection. Also, if someone doesn't want to do any of the above choices, they could have and abortion, they'll just live with that guilt for the rest of their life.

DANIEL D. — Republican
Hi. My name is Dan D., aka The Icemann or the Re-Danimator. I was born at Loyola Hospital on November 3rd, 1983, where I came very close to dying because I was born two months early. I am on the cross-country team and the track team. I even won a medal in a relay last year. I am an artist, or a cartoonist, to be exact. I have my own comic book series called "A DAY IN THE LIFE OF THE WORLD." You can find out more about the comic book and it's progress at "www.geocities.com/skullcapcomix". Over the summer I worked at POFAC. (Prairie Oaks Family Aquatic Center) That was a fun job, but it is over now, as the summer has come to an end. No more money for Dan. Oh well. I concentrate on cross-country, mostly, now. We are going to make it to state, I can just feel it!! But I don't know if I will, because I just tore a muscle in my calf and can't run.

I, Dan Dieckmann, would have to say that I am on the right side of the political spectrum, a Republican. On every issue we have discussed in the class, I have mostly had Republican views. I believe that my parents are Republicans, but that has had no influence on me at all. I want to believe what I want to believe, and no one can tell me other wise. I personally don't even want to be with one side as opposed to another, but it just so happens that I am more Republican than not. I think that one of the biggest problems I have with being on a side is that suddenly my opinions are no longer my own. Now, I am just agreeing with someone else's opinions and beliefs. If I have an opinion, then it is my own, not someone else's. But for the purposes of this classroom, I can deal with having to be restricted to one side of the political spectrum.

I have many views and opinions, even though I might not speak on them too often. I believe that affirmative action is a bunch of baloney. I can not agree with favoring someone just because of the color of their skin, because that just means that you are not favoring someone else because of their skin, and that is discrimination, which is what affirmative action is supposed to be a solution for. I think it must have been a good idea on paper, but got messed up somewhere in the realization process. I am all about the choice to have an abortion. If a woman wants to have an abortion, she should have that option, because it's her body, and therefore it is her choice, and no one should be able to take that choice away.

ZAYRA P. — Democrat

My name is Zayra. I live with my parents and my brother. I have no pets but I really like dogs. My favorite color is light blue. I love listening to music, dancing, and soccer. I play midfield in the school's soccer team. I also like going to the movies and spending time with my friends. After high school I plan to go to college, and travel hopefully, I will get to visit at least Paris, France.

I am declaring my political affiliation to be a Democrat. I am a liberal because I believe that government should help the people by having programs or other things that will help them out. The government was made to help people so it should do its job. I also believe that everyone should be treated equal, and we should all have the same rights and opportunities. America is suppose to be the land of opportunities and freedom so I think it should be like that in every aspect. I also believe I am on the left side because most of the responses I had for the issues we discussed I was on the left side.

I still believe that racism is a big problem in the whole world including America who is suppose to be over that, or at least many people believe that. Even after slavery and segregation has been abolished racism and prejudice still exists. I think people should really try to be more open-minded and try to at least treat each other equally. I also believe that women should be treated equally as well. We all work just as hard and should get the same things out of it. I do not think it is fair for both sexes to be treated differently. Both can do just about the same things and neither should be treated differently anywhere in any way.

CHRIS H. — Republican

I am a senior at West Chicago Community High School. I. I play three sports a year they are football, indoor track, and outdoor track. Also I play baseball in the summer for a league and thats about it. Im a Republican.

I am a republican. I have very strong views towards the right side but then I there are those times that I agree with the left side. But that is not very often. So on the spectrum I would be on the right side.

I do have a couple of issues that I would like to share. Like racism is a big one. I really disagree with racism. I think that it is so bad. I disagree with everybody that is racist. I am for drilling. I think that we should drill in Alaska. Because we need to supply are selves with are own oil. It would be so much cheaper if we were to drill. My third issue has to be against abortion. I think that there should only be certain situations in abortion. I dont think that it is right to take another persons life. Its just not right.
