Committee B

MELANIE M. — Democrat

HI! I moved to West Chicago about two years ago and started at Community High School my junior year. I have three brothers and one sister. My sister is also a senior this year(Lindsey Z.). My sister is my one true friend that I know that I can trust with anything. When I am not in school I am at work, hanging out with my friends or my boyfriend Josh Reiner. My family is very important to me and we are all very close to eachother. After grauduation I plan to move to Florida and possibly go to college.

I am a strong willed democrat and will never turn back. I have a view on everything and will stick to it. You would have to be really convincing to make me change my mind. I am proud to be a dem. because we have more feelings for the people of the country than rep. As a democrat I think about the feelings and the views of everybody not just myself or the government.

There are a few views that I feel very strongly about one of them being abortion. Every woman has the right to choose what she wants to do with her life and I feel very strongly about this issue. Also I believe that there should be a large government with more power. I do not believe in letting states have more power. I am glad to be a democrat and have many more views that made me feel that way.

JESSE F. — Republican

I enjoy taking life a day at a time. I try to take it easy as best as I can. I like making things and working on gas powered stuff. I plan to work in a machine shop where I will be a successful machinist. I am a big fan of Black Luster, the Becker boy's band, not to mention the best band ever, Metallica.

I guess I consider myself a moderate Republican. I believe in most of the republican views, but I believe we should have more rights as people. I believe in more of a small government, where the people have more of the power and can make more decisions for themselves without the government regulating them. Business should be up to the business. Government should not be able to regulate profit from businesses. What they make is what they make. They shouldn't be penalized for their successes. We should have the right say what we feel without being restricted to our feelings. Obscenities should be censored within reason.

I strongly think we should help America before other nations. We need help within our country and we don't have lots of time to be messing around with other countries. I think the welfare program is not too great. Most of the people who are on welfare take advantage of it and buy things that aren't essential to their needs. Welfare needs to be cut back to make it actually help America, and not hurt it. I'm very much for capital punishment. I would say that it is one of my strongest viewpoints. I totally believe eye for an eye, and if you commit a murder, you should be murdered.

Kevin M. — Republican

Hey, my name is Kevin and I am a senior at West Chicago High School. I was born May 30, 1984 in Lexing Brothers hospital. Since then I have lived in Illinois my whole life. I enjoy being on swim team and riding my dirtbike. My favorite winter sport is snowboarding. I try to take at least two big trips with my friends to go boarding each year. I also like going to Becker's house and watching his band. I plan to go to college at either Indiana Univ., U of Iowa, or U of Illinois, I will probably end up studying business and management.

At this point, I consider myself a moderate Republican. I agree with most of the right side's beliefs, but often, not to the degree as they are stated. I feel if people earn their money through dedication and hard work, they should be able to keep it. Why tax people more for being more successful? With a flat tax, everyone will be taxed equally. If you put hard work and dedication into a company or personal business, you should be able to enjoy the benefits. Also, the power of the government should be spread throughout the states, so problems can be dealt with more efficiently closer to the source. Republicans believe in many
traditional values, which I also agree, are important. The government was formed to protect the people, not run every aspect of their lives.

I believe in pro-life in many cases, but not all. If there is rape, incest, or the mothers life is threatened, abortion may be the right choice. I also believe we should worry about America first, before we go around and try to help the rest of the world. Though foreign aid is nice, we should first take care of all of our constantly growing problems. If we cut back on some of the money lost to other countries aid, we could improve our educational programs, transportation systems, communication systems, and national parks just to name a few. Our government should think of their own people above all others, and keep America the land of freedom and opportunity. I also think we should spread out and balance the government's power between the states. Many issues involve factors that vary from state to state, so if the government was stronger at that level, they could tend to their needs much easier. If we give too much power to the federal government, they can start to become corrupt and make selfish decisions, which hurt our people and government. A final issue is that of illegal immigrants. If someone comes here illegally, they should receive no benefits of our country and shouldn't even be granted a job. We have enough jobless and homeless Americans without all of the illegals. If we form stricter laws on immigration, it will enhance our standard of living and hopefully bring more families up into the middle class.

TONY C. — Republican

What's up? My name is Tony C. and I am from Carol Stream, IL. I own a 92 Buick Century, which I just, put a new alternator in. It broke and my car's battery wasn't recharging but now it's ok. I was born in Glendale Heights, IL. I have two brothers, one older and one younger. I have a job that I work at Monday through Thursday from 3-7. My picture on this homepage is a Mazda RX-7. I thought that the picture looked cool and that is why it is there.

I am a moderate republican. Everytime that I take a survey, I end up just off to the right side of the spectrum. However, I am not way off to the right side of the spectrum. I have many beliefs that are on the left side of the spectrum but for the most part, I fall off to the right. Most republicans believe that the government should have a minimal role is society. They should do the bare minimum and let society make its own rules. They believe in a strong state government and they believe in the fact that society will solve its own problems. They support such issues as anti-hate crime laws, pro-life, and a flat tax.

I believe that we should eliminate the hate crime laws so that no matter the race or nationality of the person that the crime was committed against, they get the same punishment. Also, I believe in a flat tax, which is off to the right side of the spectrum. Lastly, I believe that you have the right to own a gun. All of these issues move me towards the right of the spectrum and that is why I feel that I am more republican. There are a few issues in which I lean off to the democratic side, which is why, I am only a moderate republican.

CORI D. — Republican

Hey! My name is Corinne D. I was born at CDH in Winfield, IL where I currently live. I'm the youngest of four children, Ryan (23), Kate & Dan (21) and then me. I am an Aunt to my sister's daughter, Hailey Marie and a lucky sister-in-law to her husband Derek. I work at Wyndemere Retirement Community, and in my free time I love to hang out with my friends. After high school I plan on attending a 4-year university, possibly a school in Iowa.

Republicans believe that there should be more power in the state government. Because the government is going to stay out of society, the people of this country will be able to solve their own problems in society. Each state can make their own laws to protect the people of their states. A strong central government prohibits the ability of society to make its own rules.

I am a moderate republican because I am slightly to the right on the political spectrum. However, I have a couple of issues that I fall off to the left side of the spectrum which is why I am only a moderate republican. Overall, I tend to lean towards the moderate-republican side because I am undecided on which issues are more important to me. My strongest belief is about the issue of abortion, which is an issue off to the right. I think that unborn babies have the right to life no matter what the circumstances of the situation are. Another issue that I have strong beliefs about is capital punishment, which is also an issue to the right. I think that anyone who takes the life of another person, does not deserve to live. People in jail are not in any way being punished. They have access to TV's and all other means of communication. Finally, the last issue that I have strong beliefs about is voluntary prayer in school. I think that prayer in school is acceptable as long as you don't force your opinion on someone else. This issue is also to the right.

JILL G. — Republican

Hi! My name is Jill. I am eighteen years old and I have lived in West Chicago all of my life. I went to Turner Elementary School and then West Chicago Middle School. Now I attend West Chicago Community High School. This past summer I traveled to Italy, Switzerland, France and England. I like to play soccer, go shopping, going to the movies, and many other things. Next year, I would like to attend either the University of Illinois or Illinois State University. I am going to study criminal justice or psychology.

Republicans believe that we should have a stronger state government. We are also against affirmative action because the people that are fit for the job should receive the job. We also think that prayer should be allowed in school. I think that I am a moderate republican.

The issues that I feel the strongest about are abortion, foreign policy, and the death penalty. I am pro-life. I think that abortion is a form of murder and shouldn't be allowed. I don't think that America should deal with foreign affairs. We should just concentrate on the business of America. Another issue that I feel is important is the death penalty. I believe that under certain situations people should be given the death penalty. That is why I am a moderate republican.

DAN G. — Republican

My name is Dan and I'm a senior at West Chicago Community high school. I was born in Columbus, Ohio and I grew up in Cincinnati until I was eight. Then I moved to Naperville, then Aurora, and then to West Chicago about 7 years ago. I like to play sports especially baseball, but I don't like soccer too much. I play the guitar, cello, and bass and I like to listen to alternative rock. My favorite bands are Linkin Park, Creed, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. I plan to study computer engineering in college and maybe play the cello in a college orchestra. Right now I'm applying to the University of Illinois at Urbana and to IIT.

I am a strict Republican. I feel very strongly that the government should stay out of most of the economy, that the government shouldn't act as an equalizer to close the gap between rich and poor, that the government should stay out of the business of foreign countries, that reverse discrimination is still discrimination, and that the U.S. needs a strong military to protect and to insure national security.

One of my strongest issues is that I think the government should stay out of the economy because free market is one of the best ways for commerce to happen. I also think that taxes should be limited to paying for the bare essentials necessary. Programs like welfare, social security, and foreign aid only take more money from taxpayers and help make our country more like communism. The success of our country should be based on people who work hard, not people who get free money from the government. The flat tax is the best way to avoid communism. It makes people work hard for their living. Another strong issue for me is getting rid of affirmative action. I think that reverse discrimination is discrmination in itself and so it shouldn't happen anymore. Finally, I think that the best way to protect and better our country is to build up a strong, technologically advanced military and to enforce stricter security within the country. That would avoid incidents like what happened at the World Trade Center. It is worth overstepping the rights of a few people in order to insure the lives of thousands of others.

ALICE H. — Republican

I was born May 11, 1984 at Central Dupage in Winfield and I've lived in Winfield ever since. I like to drive around and hang out with my friends and go on road trips and leave Winfield and do other fun stuff. I used to work at in the swim over the summer where I tried to make money for my new car, but I guess I'm going to pay my parents back because my money always disappears. I don't know where I want to go college, I hear that Michigan Tech is a great school, but I'd really love to go to school in LA like at USC or UCLA. I'll probably go somewhere close to here though. I still don't know what I want to do.. maybe I'll be a doctor.

I'm a moderate republican. I agree with almost everything the Republican side supports. However I agree with the Democrats involved government and favor of taxes. On the Republican side I'm pro-life, pro-capital punishment or at least harsh punishment. I'm for an increase in defense spending and keeping the government and status quo like they are.

I also believe in the federalist, involved government that the Democratic Party supports; one that helps the people from this country and other ones too. Also I agree that taxes are ok because we have to have them to help the country work as well as it has been. However the tax should be flat so everyone is helping out the same percentage and no one is being punished for being successful. I'm pro-life because every child deserves a chance and as soon as it starts developing into a person it is one and to kill it is murder so the government should outlaw abortion. Also I think defense should be increased. At the start of this class I thought that it shouldn't be cut back because I know other countries have advancing technology and I think we need to keep up with it and ahead of it to remain the most powerful country in the world. Now, since the terrorist attacks on our country, I think defense spending needs to be increased so that we can stop or at very least be prepared for something like that.

JOSH A. — Republican

Wuz up! My name is Josh A. and I was born on July 2 1984. I have two brothers Jason (Older), and Diego (younger) and a dog named melony. In my free time I like to play Basketball, Soccer, Hacky-Sac, and HangInG out with my friends. I don't go on many vacations but I'm sure that I would visit the grand land of Amsterdam of I had a choice. After High School I plan to go on to a higher education in the name of justice. I want to aspire to a criminal defense attorney to defend those innocent tax paying citizens who may otherwise be railroaded by a system that knows its own two-faced tendencies.

In regards to my personal standings on the political spectrum I believe that I find myself as a moderate Republican. There are many reasons that cause me to lean to the right and one of them is the republican's view on the economy. They believe that we should leave the economy be and let it balance itself out. Another point that I strongly back is the conservative view on foreign affairs, I agree with their belief that the extent of our foreign affairs should include only those issues that involve American business interests. Finally I side with the right due to their view on gun control. I believe that we as law-abiding citizens deserve the right to bear arms not only to defend ourselves from dangerous people but also to defend ourselves from a possibly corrupt government. The second amendment guarantees us this right and to take measures to further hinder this is violating the constitution. On the issue of taxes I feel that the Flat tax is the only way to achieve true equality regarding the economic burden that the government lays upon us. Asyou can see the majority of my issues push me a good distance to the right of the spectrum, But don't get me wrong I'm not some sort of a die hard fanatical Republican extremist with disgust for the entire democratic party. On the contrary I tend to side strongly with the Democrats on basically any issue that may involve individual rights. I would call myself a libertarian Business advocate that supports the 2nd Amendment firmly and also believes that the legalization of Marijuana would strengthen the social fabric of the great land we call home.

THERESA U. — Democrat

HEY I'm Theresa. I was born in Chicago on April 15,1984 and I lived in Skokie for a couple years then I moved out to Hanover Park and then here to West Chicago. I went to 3 different elementary schools but I've lived around here most of my life. I've traveled to a lot of places. Mostly within the US like I've been to California and Florida a few times, and I'm one of the lucky people that have been to the twin towers before they collapsed last Tuesday, September 11. I've seen Yellowstone National Park, Niagara Falls and a bunch of other pretty places. One spring break I went to Cancun and during winter break 2000-2001, I visited my family living in the Philippines again since my last visit was when I was 6. My hobbies are basically hanging out...and stuff like that and I like to play soccer. In the future, I hope for world peace and the end of poverty and world hunger in all countries.

On the political spectrum, I'm more to the left side making me a democrat. In my opinion, our federal government should take action in keeping our nation healthy, educated, and most of all free. Free to make our own decisions, free to speak our minds, and free to express the rights given to us as written in the constitution.

The main issues that make me a democrat are abortion, taxes, and gun-control laws. I think the progressive tax system is more of an equal way to tax our workers. The use of the flat taxes would only separate our nations poor from the rich more because no matter how much some one makes, proportionally, those with smaller incomes would pay more than those with larger incomes. Another thing I believe in is Pro-choice. I think that it is the woman's right to choose whether or not they have an abortion. Abolishing abortion doesn't mean its going to stop. In our past when abortion was once banned, there were always clinics where less than qualified doctors performed abortions illegally because there were women out there who didn't want to have children. Illegal abortion risks the health and even lives of women.

ERIN E. — Democrat

Welcome to my Page! My name is Erin. I was born in Elmhurst Illinois and spent 9 years of my life living in Lombard Illinois. Until 4th grade I attended Pleasant Lane elementary school. In 1994 my family and I moved to Winfield Illinois and we have lived there for about 8 years now. I went to school at Winfield elementary for one year, then I went to Winfield Middle School once 5th grade began. Now I am a senior at West Chicago high! I'm in colorguard and it's a lot of fun! I love being with my friends; we always have so much fun Going on vacations especially to the beach is definitely what I love! I'm and all around kind of person and always love to be doing something. After high school, I plan on working a lot and going to College of Dupage for two years, after COD I plan to go to a four-year school hopefully on the west, or East Coast.

In the case of our political spectrum I am a moderate democrat. This is because I believe the most strongly in views from the viewpoint of a democrat. For example I strongly believe in stricter gun control. It is important for our society to watch our protection and it keep violence to a minimum. As a moderate democrat I believe that it is important for a woman to have the right to abortion in the case of rape. It should be up for choice in the case that the woman is raped. Another issue I take side with is supporting other countries in efforts to promote world peace and human rights. If we can make peace with other countries it will help us to not cause more world trauma in fights against each other such as terrorism. As far as taxes go I think it is fair to everyone in society to go along with tax fairs. The money made with taxes also helps everyone when it goes to the government; it does not just benefit the poor. Although it is good to help get the poor on their feet so they can make a living and help with taxes too. All of these issues that I agree with place me as a democrat on the spectrum, but I still consider myself moderate because I also agree with issues to the right opposed to some on the left.

ROSA G. — Democrat

My name is Rosa and I live in West Chicago. I practically grew up in West Chicago although we moved around town until the last six years when we bought a house. I attended Gary School, Turner School, Indian Knoll School, Pioneer School and Lincoln School for elementary schools. I then attended the West Chicago Middle School. I now attend the West Chicago Community High School for my last year and I haveattended this high school for my first three years. In my spare time I like to read and watch TV. I also enjoy listening to music and going out with my friends. My first job was at Klein Creek Golf Course where I worked as a waitress for about three years. I now work at St. Charles Pontiac and Buick dealer. I got this job from the school when I joined the BTI class and I needed a job that was related to my career choice. After high school I plan to attend COD for two years so that I can get my degree in business management.

There is just one main issue that I totally agree that would seem that I am a republican and that is the issue of gun control. I am in total agreement that there should be stricter gun control regulations. In other issues my views all lean toward democratic side. I fully agree that there should be enough tax money going to the government to take care of the people who are in desperate financial need and that will cause a raised standard of living for everybody. I also agree that the choice of abortion should be left to the women. I think that the main person affected by this decision would be the woman and she is the person that will have to live with this decision and or her baby. My last strong view is that the government should have enough money to give to any educational proposals or bills. I am in total accordance that the educational level should be raised because that is the basis of our economy. I think that once everybody has a high level of knowledge and extensive schooling our economy will improve since everybody will want to accomplish their highest level of social status and education.

There are reasons I want more people in the government and that is because I want them to have enough manpower and resources to be able to protect the common people. I want all minority people to have all the advantages that this country can give them as all other people. This way everybody starts with the same advantages and this way everybody can work to their fullest potential. Also if there are more government official in the for

FABIOLA C. — Democrat

Hi everyone I am Fabiola and have been living here for over twelve years. I've lived here in West Chicago ever since I got here from Mexico. I love playing soccer and enjoy watching it as well. I plan to continue studying after High school. I'm hoping to go to a four-year university. To get a good job and become something in life.

I believe that I am a democrat because I agree with most of the things that they have to say. I believe in the rights of people, and pro-choice. These are the things that I mostly agree on. I am a democrat because they are more for the people and they help the minorities. When to me the republicans want to not have any other groups but themselves. Therefore I am more to the left of the spectrum.

The issues that I mostly agree on are as I mentioned above are the rights on people because I believe that only because you're a minority that does not mean that their rights should be limited. I also believe in pro-choice I think that people should be able to decide for themselves what is to be done with them. I am also against the death penalty, I believe that it is wrong to kill people who they are not even sure committed the crime or what ever it is that they are going to die for. Many innocent people have died and that is not right. Unless you're absolutely sure that they did the crime then it would be okay, but it's still not right. Those are the issues that I strongly agree and my reasons for me being a democrat.

TRUC P. — Moderate Democrat

Hi! My name is Truc P. I was born on November 3, 1983 in Vietnam. I am currently living in Carol Stream and attending West Chicago High School. I am currently working at Wireless Depot as a sales person for cellular phones and Old Navy as a sales person. After I get out from high school I'm planning to attend either North Central, DePaul, or IIT for web site designer, computer art, or computer science. I think most likely my major has something to do with computer and art. I enjoy working with anything that has to do with art. My hobbies are dancing, drawing, and playing sports on my free time (volleyball, basketball, Etc.) Over the summer I went to Vietnam for a month and half. It was the greatest vacation I had this year. I'm planning to go back next year in the summer for my graduation gift.

I am a moderate democrat for most the topics we discuss. Therefor I believe in the system that the government is having right now on taxes, I feel that the people who make more money should pay more taxes, because if everyone pay the same taxes then the people who are rich will get more richer and the people who are poor will get more poorer. The taxes are paid at the same rate as the richer.

The topic I like to discuss I feel that discrimination and race are topics that I really like to discuss. I think that everyone is equal, in that it doesn't matter what color or background you are. Its all about who you are as a person, not what's on the outside or what religion you believe in. I also feel that hate crime should be more punishment

HEATHER P. — Republican

Hi, I'm Heather. I was born in Hinsdale, IL and I went to St. Petronille School in Glen Ellyn from kindergarten to eighth grade. Now I'm 17 and a senior in high school. I'm on the swim team at school, which takes up a lot of time. I also work at Nordstrom, in Oakbrook. (Yea, its a long drive...) And whenever I have free time, I'm usually just hanging out with my friends. In the future, I'm going to go to college - but I'm still deciding on which one as of now. I'm thinking of maybe becoming veterinarian, but I'm still unsure.

I think I'm leaning toward the right of the spectrum, the Republican side. I feel very strongly about a number of issues that are of Republican views, such as capital punishment, abortion, profit and flat tax, and foreign policy. I believe in capital punishment - that if someone consciously kills another person, then they don't deserve to live. I also do not believe in abortion because it's the killing of an unborn child. As for profit, I do think that people and businesses have the right to make as much money as they possibly can and therefore have the right to choose how to spend it. Those who make more money should not be punished by having to pay more in taxes. The flat tax takes a percentage of income, so obviously the wealthier people are still paying more money. As for the foreign policy, I believe that our country should be in order before going out and getting involved in the problems of other countries.

One issue that is important to me is capital punishment, which is also one of the most frequently debated on. I feel very strongly that killing someone should guarantee the death sentence. I'm not talking about killing in defense of one's life or anything like that, but I do think that if one person can take the life of another then they deserve to suffer.

DOUG W. — Republican
I am Doug W., "Texas Ranger." I was born nearby and have lived in Carol Stream my whole life. I attended Benjamin Middle School. I still play soccer, after ~12 years, and now also play hockey. More importantly, I have an obsession for the drums. I've played them for over eight years, and they are my thriving passion.

I am a bit more Republican than Democratic. Even though most tests place me right in the middle, I feel more strongly about the conservative ideals I agree with. For example, the government (especially federal) has far too much control over things which should be of no concern to them. To limit their power we must lower taxes. Then, there will also be less money "lost" by the government, since it will be under closer regulation. Another thing the government is unrightfully butting in with is affirmative action. This causes twice the discrimination that it was established to eliminate. Not only are white people prevented from getting their rightfully deserved job and scholarships, but it also insults minorities by assuming they can not get these things without government assistance. Everyone should earn what they get. There should be no government handouts. I oppose welfare, for it creates laziness and demoralizes hard work of others. The same principles apply to schooling. The idea of everyone paying what they are now and receiving equal schooling is Communistic. People should be rewarded for their hard work, instead of having it taken away. This is also why we should have a flat tax.

I feel very strongly that the government holds far too much power and does not cator to the needs of an average citizen. The Government has stepped far out of line of their originally intended purpose. They no longer only protect us from each other, but now also have taken the liberty to "protect us from ourselves." Another one of my concerns is that censorship is completely out of control, and it is slowly deteriorating our freedom and country as a whole.

NOEL M. — Democrat

There should be a strong government in place so that the American people can rally behind in times of need. It is essential that the rights of the American people be protected to the greatest possible extent.

Some of the issues that affected my decision in declaring myself a democrat were pro choice and the rehabilitation of prison inmates. I think the decision to bear a child or not should be in the hands of the women at all times. Nobody has the right to tell woman she must have a baby that she is not prepared to have. As for the rehabilitation, I believe it is essential to have programs in place not just to benefit inmates but society in general. Most inmates will eventually be released from prison not developing any form of regret and mostly likely returning to the life that concluded with them going to prison.

MELISSA F. — Republican
Hi, I am Melissa Nicole. I was born in Highland Park on July 8, 1984. I lived in Wheaton most of my life, and eventually wound up in West Chicago. I am the oldest of four. I have two brothers and a sister; one of my brothers is a freshman this year. I was home schooled until eighth grade. I liked it at the time, but I'm glad I've been in public school since then. My family has had just about every pet that you could imagine, other than lions and tigers and bears (oh my). Currently we only have a cat, two fish, a gerbil, and an ugly ferret that hates me (the feelings are mutual). I had never been out of the country before untill two summers ago when I went to Brazil for two weeks with my best friend and our moms. It was an increadible experience, and the food was great, so that was a plus. It was also my first time on an airplane - I went on a total of 10 planes that summer. I'm not real sure what I want to do after high school. I really want to go away to college, but I don't know where yet. I may end up going to COD for my first year and then transferring somewhere else. I'm thinking I'd like to go into Elementary Education and teach kindergarten or first grade, but I'm still not real sure about that yet either. I like photography too, so that's my back-up plan.

As you can tell from my heading, I have found myself to be a Republican. My views and standpoints in the discussions we have held in class have been conservative along with all of the "defining" activities we have done. For example, I believe that the states should hold more power than the federal government because the states know how to better use revenue for their benefit. The federal government doesn't know everything about each individual state and how much money they need to be given. I also agree with the flat tax over the graduated tax. I think that if you work to earn your own money and you end up being prosperous, you should have the right to it rather than being taxed more because of it. That also means I agree that you have the right to all of the profit you make. It is possible that luck and legacy has something to do with financial positions, but I think that you have more right to it if you earn it on your own. If you do acquire money through luck, it didn't come out of nowhere, someone worked hard for it in the first place.

Issues that I have strong opinions about are abortion, capital punishment, racial profiling, and personal rights. About abortion, I am pro-life. I don't think there is any reason for abortions, there are other ways. Everyone knows the possible consequences if they mess around and I don't think they should be able to, in a sense, "get rid of" the problem by aborting the baby. Even if pregnancy is a result of rape, there are thousands of couples who are waiting to adopt babies. A baby can be growing within 45 minutes of conception, and it is a living being. On capital punishment, I agree that we should continue to use the death penalty. Why should we pay millions of dollars to keep mass murders alive who say that if they get out, they would only do it again? There are people who, no matter how long they sit in a cell to "think about" what they did wrong, would not ever regret their actions. The death penalty is not the "easy way out" either. They've got a free ride in prison, so why get out to have to pay for everything and have to worry about responsibility again. I don't agree with racial profiling at all. If we are all created equally, we should be treated in the same way. I don't think that certain races should be treated differently if they are the minority, or visa versa. About the happenings of last week, I also think that everyone should have to go through the same security checks, not just people who are from the Middle East. When it comes down to it, anyone could be a terrorist, you can't tell just by looking at them. We shouldn't be discriminating against people who look suspicious, we need to be concious of everyone. Finally, personal rights. I would have to answer "yes" to the question regarding if I am willing to sacrifice individual rights for the sake of security, especially with the happenings of last week. I think that there are many more people who would now agree that security is very important. On all of these views I have taken the conservative side of the political spectrum.

JUANA G. — Democrat
My name is Juana G. I come from a family of six. One of my brothers is a sophomore here at this high school. My youngest brother is a sixth grader. And a dog. I live in West Chicago and have lived here my whole life. I hope that in the future I will move out of West Chicago. My favorite color is purple. My future plans are to attend college as soon as I graduate high school. I'm not sure what my major will be. Most likely a field that has to do with law or computers.

I am declaring my political affiliation to be a Democrat. In the political spectrum I was mostly on the left side. I am a democrat because my belifes are parallel to those that we have discussed in class that were on the left side of the spectrum. For example when we discussed the issue of capitol punishment I sided with the liberals. I belive that the person who did the time should have to feel guilt for their wrong doing rather than having them take the easy way out. I also believe that problems should be addressed by government programs. I believe in public transportation, health care, childcare and so forth. I strongly emphasize a government oriented society. I strongly believe that we should all be treated equal. It shouldn't matter if you are lower-class or minority we all deserve the opportunity to receive aid from the government.

I believe that racism is a big issue that we have to work on. Racism among your own race is an ever bigger issue now a days. You see Hispanics vs. Hispanics, blacks vs. blacks, and whites vs. whites. Another concerning issue to me is that of violence. The problems that occurred in schools is obviously a reason of concern. That brings me to the issue of gun control. Gun control would be a base to start hitting up on the other issue of violence. I believe in equality among women and men. Still today women aren't being treated with equal right. Men are still considered higher up on the scale of life. More and more women today have the same if not more skills that men posses.

JUSTIN L. — Moderate Democrat
My name is Justin L and I just turned 17 this August, 2001. Being one of the youngest seniors in the
West Chicago High School, I get teased constantly. Actually, I just moved to Aurora in brand new town home that was built a few months earlier. Living only with my mom and my dog, I spend my free time going out with friends and skating. My new house is about fifteen minutes away from school and I don't mind the drive. In the winter I go snowboarding a lot and this winter my friend John and I are going to teach classes. I've been snowboarding for about a week and hes been doing it for about a year. The funny thing is, in that week I learned some of the most technical tricks, like front flips and such, and other kids who have just started can't even stand up. One good reason that I cought on so quick was because I have been in gymnastics for about 8 years now. That has helped me with skating and snowboarding a lot.

Agreeing to mostly left side issues, I consider myself a Democrat. During the discussions on education, I felt it was more important for everyone to have an equal education. Students shouldn't have to suffer their education because the community can't bring in enought funds. All schools should have equal chances to better everyones education. Dealing with the Capital Punishment area, I believe that it is better fot the prisioner to sit in his cell for the rest of his life only have one thing on his mind, what got him there. I believe that everyone has an apifiny, realizing how and why their life is screwed up and only time will bring it to them. Once someone is dead, that burden on them is lifted so they won't have to deal with the pain. I feel that they should have to deal with what they caused if the victems have to. These are just some of the issues that prove my Democratness. Even though i have some Republican views, most of my attention focuses towards the left side.

I strongly feel that abortion should be a Pro Choice issue. This is a topic many people oppose and dread to discuess but I believe that it needs to be tackled. I don't think the father has to choose wether an unborn life is brought forth, I think it's the mothers choice. She should have a chance to think over what she might do and decide if she is ready to birth a child. The father is very important in this area, but he isn't the one who will carry the child for nine months, nurturing it to life. He "Planted his Seed" and watchs the results. The woman is the main contender, therefore decides if she is ready or not.

ZACH D. — Republican

My name is Zach D. and I was born in Winfield Illinois on August 9, 1984. I now live in the ghetto town of West Chicago where i attend school at West Chicago High School. I play baseball and basketball in my spare time. I just want Mr. Healy to know that Michigan is gonna kick Wisconsin's butt. I plan on attending college out on the west coast where i hope to major in engineering. Someday i hope to own my own business.

I am a moderate republican. I usually agree with the Republicans on most issues but i do tend to agree with the Democrats some of the time. I listen to both views but most of the time the good side (Republicas) are the ones that i side with.

I believe in capital punishment. I believe that if someone commits murder on another person that the person who commited it should be put to death. I dont think that the person should get off the easy way with some wussy injection but they should be killed the same way that they killed ther person if not worse for doing it in the first place.

JON H. — Democrat

"Hey, what do i write here?"

SA Bill: "you don't actually write, you type."

Jon: "yeah yeah yeah, so what do I "type" here???" SA Bill: "whatever you want people to know about you." Jon: "well ok, ill give it a go." Jon types, "Hey all!! before you read all of this, i just have to ask one question.

WHY ARE YOU HERE!

answer that to me by e-mailing me at "4horsemenofmetal@metallica.com" without the quotes of course. well if you already answered that questin now ill let you know about me. im a senior at WCCHS (west chicago community high school for all the people that don't know the schools acromym. now its time to declare my party affilliation. I AM A LIBERAL DEMOCRAT. yeah i know, good for me. ok,im supposed to discuss issues that support why im aliberal democrat. i don't exactially know how i'msupposed to discuss them seeing as im the only one here but ill give it a shot anyway. Immigration: i haveno problem with immigrants, they should be allowed. the only problem comes with the illegal immigrants.border jumpers, ship stowaways, and others that come here illegally from all over the world just toleech off out economy. they make great money every year, tax free, they send it back to wherever they camefrom and take jobs from decent hard working american citizens, these people should be roundedup and purged from out country. Terrorism: i am against any and all acts of terrorism. most terroristacts are acts of cowardess and brash thinking. No one will listen to you if you blow up a building. in our"system" you have to state your case, evidence and be able to keep supporting it. you can't get any majorchanges by blowing up a building, if anything you will get alot of really pissed off people gunning foryou.take the recent events of the WTC for instance .ive noticed there are alot of people on the news nowthat were victims of hate crimes because they are of mid-eastern decent. just because they are the samerace or close to that of people that hijacked the 4 planes, other americans have gotten very upset andhave taken their frustration out on the mid-eastern type people. The death penalty: it should be keptresonant if only to keep the fear in the back of people's minds that if they comit a haneous act, theywill be dually punished. most criminals know of the facilities that will house them for the duration of theirpayment to society, and it does sound pretty lavish. 3meals a day, an hour of excercise, no bills, no taxes,it does sound pretty well to do. with this in place what do we have to deture people from commiting the terrible crimes to get a little preferential treatment?

STEVE V. — Republican

I was born in Carol Stream, IL and have lived there my whole life. I went to Evergreen Elementary School and Benjamin Middle School. Since I was about 9 years old, I have been on a swim team in various locations. I currently am a member of the swim team here at the high school. Every day after school I go to work at a fitness center called Sports Med. When I graduate college I am hoping to attend West Point Military Academy. I am undecided on a major at this point but I am looking at going into the medical field and or computers.

I am a moderate Republican. I agree with many of the opinions of the republicans but I side with the democrats on others.

Some of the issues that I agree with include abortion, gun ownership, the death penalty, and big businesses. I do not think that abortions should be allowed in the United States and definitely should not be federally funded. It is killing an innocent child and that is wrong. Also, I think that guns should be given to every responsible individual. Strict background checks, and a difficult process to acquire a gun is alright but we all deserve to own a gun. Third, we should use the death penalty to punish those who have committed horrific crimes such as murder, rape, incest, and molestation. Last, I believe that business should be allowed to grow as much as the public allows, if they create a good product, they deserve to reap the benefits.
