LEGISLATIVE PROFILES GOVERNMENT REFORM

Democrats

AMBER T.

My full name is Amber. I was born in Winfield and lived in West Chicago my whole life. I went to Happy Train for preschool and went to Gary and Lincoln Schools for my elementary grades. I went to the Junior High in West Chicago and spent my entire High School career here. My favorite subject is math. I love to go out clubbing because I love to dance. I work at Mrs. Fields over at Charlestowne Mall. In the future I will be a bartender, so be on the lookout for me in Chicago.

I am a democrat, or a liberal. I am so, because I agree with most every issue on the left side of the political spectrum. During discussions I have found myself strongly agreeing with the views of the democrats.

I support decisions on keeping abortions legal. Sure it is the women's choice to decide what she will do with her body and they will be performed whether it is legal or not. They might as well make it safe for the woman. I support the equal distribution of wealth. Why should one community have better schools just because their rich. Education should be an equal opportunity for everyone.

CAROLYN "CARRIE" R.

My name is Carolyn. I was born on 25. October. 1980 in St. Charles, Illinois. I have lived in West Chicago all my life. I attended Turner School for grades one through six. Then West Chicago Junior High for seventh and eighth grade. I have been attending West Chicago High School since ninth grade. I also study Chinese at C.O.D. My favorite subjects are Drama, Ceramics and Writing Workshop. I enjoy acting, writing stories and poetry, reading gory, grotesque novels (i. e. Steven King, Clive Barker, Dean Koontz), playing Vampire: The Masquerade (role playing game), studying Witchcraft and traveling to strange and exotic places. I like to hang out in Chicago. My favorite places to shop are Lover's Lane, Wild Roots and The Alley. I'm also into tattoos and body piecing. I have worked at the West Chicago Public Library for a year and four months. I graduate on 22. January.1998 and can not wait. I plan to study cinematography at Columbia College in Chicago.

I am a Democrat for the simulation. It gets messy here: I am strictly to the left on individual rights. However on economics, I am a little more to the right than the left. But, I care more about individual rights, so this is why I declared myself a Democrat. I believe in "Live and let live". I think all people: rich, poor, black, white, young, old, gay or straight are and will be forever equal. No one is superior. I also believe no one should conform to fit society's mold. Everyone should be as unique as possible.

I am pro-choice because I believe the fetus is part of the mother until the third trimester. Therefore the mother should be allowed to do what she wants to her body until this point. I am anti-capital punishment. I believe it is vindictive and legalized murder. Also, it has been proven that nine innocent people (one executed) have been sentenced to die in Ill., which makes it ineffective. I do not support prayer in public schools. If you want to pray, go to a private school. I am against any forms of testing on animals. I do not believe it has any relevancy to human ailments. I support the legalization of marijuana. I believe it is beneficial to people with AIDS, arthritis and asthma. I don't think they should be denied medicine that helps them. I am against all forms of censorship. If you don't like what you see, don't watch. If you don't like what you hear, don't listen.

LARRY L.

My name is Larry. I was born at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, Illinois. I have lived in West Chicago, Illinois most of my life, but I also lived in Glendale heights for seven years before moving here in nineteen- nintyseven. I am now a senior at West Chicago High school. Before high school I attended West Chicago Junior High and before that I was a student at Indian Knoll Elementary School. I am extremely unemployed at this moment and in my massive amounts of free time I like to play sports and watch movies.

I am a democrat. I made this decision because I believe in the rights of the people and the belief that people of this nation should be able to think and act as they please without fear of a tyrannical government that is becoming obsessed in trying to control the people of this nation. I also believe that we must abide by the Constitution in all the matters it discusses because the Constitution gives us rights that make us Americans, and we can't just pick and choose what we like and don't like in it.

On the issues that currently face this country, I have somewhat mixed feelings. First I am pro- choice. I believe it is a womans right to have an abortion because a baby is a big emotional and financial burden, and a moments mistake shouldn't ruin the rest of her life. Next I believe in the rights of the people. I believe the people should be able to speak out about the government if they wish. Lastly , in contrast to the beliefs of most Democrats I am completely against gun control. I believe that the second amendment was in the constitution for a reason and should never be changed. Thank you for your time.

JAMES B.

I am commonly known as James. I attended Bye Elementary School through 2nd grade and then went to Winfield Elementary and Middle schools. Since then I have been enrolled at WCCHS. I work at the Convulsant Center's Kitchen. The rest of my life is spent trying to think of things to do with my friends.

While I do not identify with the categorization, for the purpose of this simulation I will simulate a Democrat for the simple reason that I disagree with republicans more. It is true that I am on the left of the spectrum, and thus would be considered a democrat by most people; my views are extreme on many issues--enough so that I do not fit the part well. For example, I am for the death penalty--I believe it should be used more.

I believe that anarchy is the ideal way to run a society. I realize, however, that the society is not developed enough to support this form of government, indeed the form of government a society possesses should reflect the development of that society. As such, I do not believe that we are ready for the current style of governing and thus we should instate socialism. There are certain things that we as a society are obligated to do for those among us who are less fortunate. As peoples respect and maturity develop, we should slowly move towards anarchy. Also, several things have led me to the conclusion that democracy isn't a good form of government. People are really stupid and what they want is almost never what they need. So, a government by the people and for the people is just ludicrous. As a replacement for democracy I put forth Plato's Philosopher King theory.

PHILIP Z.

My name is Philip and I was born at Dupage County Hospital . My family started off in Wheaton and now we live in Carol Stream . I attended Evergreen School (kindergarten - grade 4) ,Benjamin Middle School , and now West Chicago Community High . Some of my hobbies are football , basketball , and writing . Some personal interests are music and a idea for teaching .My future plans are to attend a major university and study to become a teacher or something with music .

The party I declare is that of the Democratic Party . I believe this to be true because I am more for freedom and the rights of the Individual (liberty) . I believe the government has a major "help " role in this country . I basically believe in the constitution and its freedoms .

I believe in the Individual , but that the individual needs guidance which is provided by the government. I also believe in pro-choice because I believe it is the choice of the mother , but there should be some limitations on Abortion . Liberally I have strong views for the Individual choices.

FATIMAH H.

My name is Fatimah and I was born in Chicago,IL. I now live in West Chicago,

IL. I attended Gary School, W.C. Middle School, and the High School here in West Chicago.

In Chicago I attended John Hay School. My favorite subject is mathematics. I work at J.P. Penny

and I am a sales associate. I enjoy dancing. Ihave one child. My future plans is to get married and have one more child and to be a pediatrition.

I believe that I'm a democrat. I believe this because I think that the government should

be involved and there should be programs for the helpless and homeless. I also believe that

there shouldn't be abortion unless there's a good cause for it. There should be a flat tax also.

Some issues that I oppose is that we shouldn't get rid of welfare. We should just

limit it to people who are trying to get back on their feet and the ones who aren't shouldn't

be able to get it.

MEGAN M.

My name is Megan. I am a democrat. I was born in St. Charles. I have moved around a lot but for the most part I have lived in West Chicago. I've gone to many schools including Gary, Pioneer, Indian Knoll, two Lincoln schools, McCauley, W. Chicago Junior High, and the W. Chicago Community High School. I have worked at Corporate Building Systems, Subway, and currently at Michael's. In the future I plan to attend N.I.U. and eventually get into advertisement for my own clothing and costuming company. I enjoy learning anything that anyone has to teach and hearing anything that anyone has to say.

I am a democrat . There should be a wide spread definitionof individual rights, the spread of human rights and pump-priming. There should be a strong central government that changes as the times do. Business should be regulated by the government.

RYAN O.

I was born April 10, 1980 at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield. I lived in West Chicago for 14 years until we bought a house in Winfield. Kindergarten through sixth grade I attended Lincoln School. In seventh grade I went to the West Chicago Jr. High. In eighth grade I attended Winfield Middle School. Freshman through Senior year I attended WCCHS. My Junior year I was selected for Who's Who Among American High School Students. Currently I am attending Davea for Electronics and Computer Technology, and I work twenty hours a week. I love anything dealing with computers and hope to become a computer technician.

I am a moderate Democrat who does not always vote with the Democratic Party. I believe that the Federal Government must be stronger than the State Government. If it was not we would have a country of fifty different nations. I also believe that government needs to be involved in business. If we did not have a Bureau of Weights and Measures or the Health Board how would we know we were truly getting a pound of lunch meat or that there are no rats in the food prep area. I believe in a progressive tax rate. Someone who makes a billion dollars a year should not have the same taxes as someone working part-time for $5.70 an hour.

I am in favor of the death penalty, if someone kills they should be killed. I am also in favor of Equal Opportunity Employment. If I am ever in a position to hire employees I am going to seek the most qualified person. I am opposed to all forms of abortion. The child did not choose to be conceived, but now that he is a living being he should have the choice to live. If the mother does not want the child it should be put up for adoption.

SCOTT H.

My name is Scott. I was born in Geneva, Illinois. I have lived my entire life in West Chicago. I attended Lincoln elementary school, and the west Chicago jr. high. I am currently enrolled at the west Chicago high school. I have a few hobbies that I do on the weekends. For instance, I play paint ball and I swim competitively. I plan on going to college after high school.

I am a Democrat because I believe that all people regardless of race, gender, or sexuality should have equal rights. I think that less government censorship of peoples expressions because it go against our bill of rights. I also believe that a woman should have the choice to have an abortion if she needs to.

I am a very strong believer of freedom of speech, I think that censorship is wrong and I am fighting to abolish it. Censorship is form of oppression; for instance music is an art form and a form of expression. If you censor it your denying someone their right to express themselves.

JULEA ELIZABETH H.

My name is Julea Elizabeth and I was born on May 29, 1980 in Delnor Hospital in St. Charles. I have lived in West Chicago, Illinois my whole life except for spending my summers every year in Pent water, Michigan. I attended Turner Elementary School and West Chicago Junior High and now WCCHS. My favorite classes are orchestra, art and child development. My hobbies are singing, dancing ballet and modern dance and teaching nursery school. I plan to attend either Florida State University to major in marine biology or Mount Mary College to major in elementary education. After graduating college I want to come back to West Chicago to work at Turner School.

I am a Democrat because I believe in a strong federal government. I believe government should have a part in business so that prices will not get too high only for the owners' benefit. I think traditional values are a good thing but there are too many different views for us to all think alike so I try to be very tolerant. I am open to religious and moral values.

I believe in supporting the bill for RU486 and think same- sex marriage should be legal. I know this is a very taboo idea, but I believe all people should be happy, and if that makes them happy it should be legal. I believe RU486 should be legalized for rape victims, because they obviously did not choose to be pregnant .I strongly oppose spousal and child abuse. I also want to write a law to put breathalizer tests in cars of repeat offenders.

Republicans

JASON V.

My name is Jason V. and I was born at Delnor Hospital in Saint Charles. I lived in St. Charles until I was three years old. I then moved to West Chicago where I have lived ever since. I attended St. Mary's School from kindergarten to seventh grade, the West Chicago Junior High School for eighth grade, and West Chicago Community High School from freshman to senior year. My favorite subjects are Math and English. My hobbies include drawing, writing, reading, and hiking. I have worked at the DuPage County Election Commission filing and preparing election materials. In the future, I plan to attend DePaul University and major in business.

I am a moderate Republican because I agree with many issues that are to the right. These include a return to traditional values, the end of affirmative action, and putting Americans first in line for aid. However, I do not agree that the government should be allowed to censor anything they find inappropriate. I also think the government should fund programs such as public aid, which is a view to the left. Yet, I agree with many more issues that are to the right, and that is why I am a moderate Republican.

I strongly support the Republican view of getting rid of affirmative action. I don't think it is considered equal opportunity when minorities get handouts because of their nationality. I also support the Republican view of restricting, if not eliminating, abortions. I believe it gives people the idea that life is not important. However, I disagree with the Republican view of censoring materials the government believes is inappropriate. This takes away our first amendment right to choose what we want to read and write.

JOHN J.

My name is John I was born in Hoffman Estates , Illinois I lived in Streamwood, bloomingdale, and west chicago. I have attended Gary school, winnebago, Indian knoll, West chicago junior high, and West chicago community high school. My interests are in sports. I play football and baseball for the high school. My plans for the future are to go to a four year college and play baseball.

After college I want to get a job in sports or in buisness.

I am a Republican. Im pro-life except for when a person is raped. I strongly believe in the death penalty you kill somebody you fry. Ibelieve in gun control and that government should stay out of buisness. I really dont like some of the rights gays have i believe if your gay you should for no reason to be able to have a child because who wants gay parents and all gay marches should be stoped because they march for no reason. My last belief is that all illegal alliens should be removed from this country because its getting to crowded and there costing us money.

I support the fight against welfare I think people need to get off there butts and get a job, and if you are on welfare you can only have one kid not enough so that you can field a football team. I oppose abortions if you can make a baby you better be able to take care of it or give it up for adoption. I support the death penalty if you kill just one person then say bye bye.

MIKE A.

I was born in Hinsdale, Illinois in 1980. Since then I have attended both Winfield Middle School and West Chicago High School, obtaining a great education. I enjoy school, just as any average kid, and I enjoy looking towards the future with wide eyes, and anticipation. I spend my extracurricular time with Future Business Leaders of America, otherwise known as FBLA. This organization has allowed me to get hands on business experience that I plan to use in the future. FBLA's Parliamentary procedure and policy has also given me a wealth of knowledge that I plan to utilize in our government simulation.

In our simulation I am declaring Republican, because I believe in our modern society, we have to stand up for the honest hard working Americans. I am not against my fellow man, nor am I greedy. I believe that government programs are good in moderation. The difference between me and a Democrat is that I believe that is more useful to give opportunity, rather than a free lunch. When giving a free lunch or a free ride, people do loss the value of honest hard work. Added to that is the Americans who do still value hard work, get taxed more and more. Why punish honest workers for working hard and becoming wealthy? Why punish them with MORE taxes and then give them LESS benefits? It doesn't make sense, and I am not willing to sit back and let it happen any longer.

This year I am excited an willing to start a new tax plan. My tax plan would eliminate the IRS all together. Then I would install a tax plan that would have a sales tax on all items bought, except food. Taxing all people, all money spent, and all at an equal percent, and why not in this era when equal rights and equality is ever so important. With eliminating the IRS we will get rid of one of the biggest government organizations. By creating a tax on all goods bought, all illegal immigrants, and black market profits, and every other dollar that is transacted in America will go to tax revenue. Supporting such bills as protecting children, and preserving America are important to insuring success in the up coming century. The jails must be reformed, and repeat offenders must pay the price. We as a country have to help each other to insure that the children have as great a country as we have. Being the minority, we must still obtain the majority voice. We need to express our views, so that we take the paths that will insure happiness for all in the future.

JIM T.

My name is Jim. I was born on December 14, 1979 in Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, Illinois, where I currently live. I attended school district 34 (Winfield Elementary and Winfield Middle School) and am now a senior at West Chicago Community High School. My hobbies are collecting hockey and baseball cards, and I love hockey and the Chicago Blackhawks. I currently hold a job at Target Greatland in Wheaton. My future plans are to go to a four year college, and I am currently undecided about a major.

I am a very, very, very, very, very, very, moderate Republican because I believe in capital punishment, a Republican belief, and I believe the government should be active in education, a Democratic belief. On each I will go back and forth on what view I will have Democratic or Republican. I believe that their should be less taxes that the people have to pay. I also believe the wealth should be distributed equally among the people. Each issue I go back and forth on whether it being a Republican or Democratic view.

CLEOFAS R.

My name is Cleofas Domingo the second .I was born and raised in the streets of Chicago.I moved to West Chicago when I was about thirteen years old.The schools I have attended are Moos, and Lincoln Elementary school and at the moment I am a struggling senior trying desperately to graduate from this hell forsaken school.I am a Leo and I enjoy drawing, my turn ons include long walks on the beach and girls with deep brown/green eyes.I'm currently working at Wendy's and my future career is a toss up between a computer graphic artist or a professional stripper.

I'm a moderate republican. The reason I am a moderate republican is because I can see both sides of every issue. Although I do see and believe a bit more of the right side.Since it appeals a bit more towards the upper class. Which is about two fifths of my intermediate and extended family, and hopefully in the future I as well.

One issue I truly disagree with is the distribution of wealth.I think if you work damn hard for your money you should be able to keep it.Why should you have to distribute your wealth to those less fortunate then yourself.I understand that some people might have trouble getting a job but not to the point where they can't get a job.

TOM O.

My name is Tom. I was born in Winfield, Illinois, at Central DuPage Hospital. I have lived in Winfield my entire life. I attended St. John's the Baptist K through 7, then for 8th, St. Petronelle in Glen Ellyn. I work at the DuPage Convalescent Center Dietary Department. My hobby is playing the drums. My future plans are to attend NIU and get a major in chemical engineering.

I support the death penalty. I believe that profit is a reward for good work, and I also don't like the government getting involved in business affairs. Businesses should decide the price and product of goods. The marketplace will distribute the wealth. Businesses should also set their own wages, rules, and not let the government dictate. My views on taxes are that everyone should pay the same amount. Finally, I have a belief of isolation.

I believe that when one is found guilty of murder that the should be sent to die the next morning with no appeal. My view on isolation is that the government should not help or get involved with any other country that we can not economically benefit from. If the other countries want help, it should come from a private group, not a government funded service. I also believe that the United States needs to keep its name as the current world superpower and therefore not cut down on defense spending to keep our military going. I believe that welfare and unemployment should be destroyed completely.

HEATHER S.

My name is Heather. I was born in Elmurust, IL. So far I have lived in Villa Park, Glendale Heights,Carol Stream, and now West Chicago. I have attended many schools all of which I can not remember the names of. My favorite subjects include Math, and science. I love to dance, and draw. My future plans are to become a Sports Physician. I am a Moderate Republican. I believe this because i am for helping the U.S. first. I believe that the governments role is to protect the country from outside influences, and get involved in war when our interests are at stake. I believe that the government should help the businesses first (Trickle down). I also believe that affirmative action should be abolished. I am moderate because I believe that the Government should be the equalizer and that there should be: Pro-choice, protect the individual,pro- gun control, and and strong separation of church and state.

JUSTIN S.

Hello my name is Justin and I'm a senior at west Chicago, IL i like to act and I'm currently in a play about a murder and a lot fun and I find it to be my way out of life and government. I'm a 17 year old teenager with not much but god life and my acting that a lot but hay for a Democrat it's a life of lessor.

In my profile Ill state that I'm a red blood democrat, and I stronglelly feel on most Democratic issue and some rep. issue but, i feel that I'm a moderate but strong democrat. I chose my side because of what the Democrat's have to offer, like more taxes to help the poor and less fortunate, the stronger on the death penalty, and others witch i feel very strong on. the rep. side also has some to offer me but not enough to make me a rep, like one the abortion i think it should be agensit the law. I'm also for gun control Feel that gun's should be more regulated by the gov. and off the streets. so I find my self on the spectrum and in the middle. I feel that the rep. side is good but I just have to support some dem .issue with a lot of morals that made me change to rep.

I find myself that capital punishment should be to fit the crime and not just because you shoplift you don't deserve to die. with some things that have to do with the morale fact of the rep. side I 'be been swayed to change to rep. I 'm sorry for any confusion that this has to do. I will change to rep. classcommunacter . My view on the abourtin issue is that it's murder in any case and that no matter what you should be shot if you do so. I also have a idea for a bill that welfare should be more regulated and or without because people abuse that . I also feel that states should have some control of their power and that it should be egoul. well in closing and after strong one and thinking I've desired that I'm a strong rep. and proud to be one.

MATT W.

My name is Matt, I was born here in Illinois,in Elmhurst where I lived for a short period of time, then I moved here to West Chicago where I attended school at Indian Knoll and Turner and went to the West Chicago Jr. High. Some of my hobbies are to mess around with cars and in my future I see myself working on them for a living . I would like be able to own a shop for myself.

I'm a moderate republican, the reason I feel this way is because I find myself always supporting the issues that republicans feel strongly about. There are a few issues that I find myself agreeing with the Democrats on but more times out of none I'm on the right side.

I believe that right now the government has way too much power in the market. I myself am for profit and if you own a business you do not need the interference. I also believe that should end welfare. I believe that the death penalty should be enforced. I oppose government spending in third world countries unless repay is guaranteed.

MIKE C.

My name is Mike and I was born in Chicago IL. A year after I was born I moved to Washburn WI. I went to school in Washburn, from kindergarten to tenth grade. I then moved to Duluth MN for a month. I then moved to Ashland WI. and attended my tenth and eleventh grades there. I recently moved to West Chicago in June of 1997 and I am attending school here my senior year. My favorite subject in school was Child Development My hobbies include listening to music, watching wrestling, and spending time with my son. My interests include working and spending time with kids and my future plans include going to school for child care and getting a job working with kids.

I represent the right side of the political spectrum, which would make me a Republican. The reason for my affiliation with the Republican Party is because of my conservative views on most issues.

The issue I am most strongly opposed to is the right for a woman to abort a unborn child. I firmly believe that abortion is the unnecessary death of a child. Abortion should only be allowed when the mother's/child's life is at risk, or in cases of rape. As a Republican, I strongly support the conservative views on abortion. I also firmly agree with the conservative views on capital punishment. In today's society the punishment should fit the crime. Harsher penalties and a return to a strong family unit are the keys to a lower crime rate.

JENNIFER L.

My name is Jennifer Marie. I was born in Elmhurst Memorial Hospital. I lived in Glendale Heights for 6 years, where I attended Reskin Elementary School for kindergarten and half of first grade. I then moved to Carol Stream where I attended Evergreen Elementary School up through fourth grade, then I went to Benjamin for fifth grade through eighth grade. After eight years in Carol Stream, I moved to West Chicago. I currently attend West Chicago Community High School. I enjoy reading, writing, cooking and baking. I write for the Wildcat Chronicle and am currently the Perspectives editor. I am also a cheerleader for soccer and wrestling. I hope to attend Illinois State University and to someday be a kindergarten teacher.

I am a Republican. Both my parents are Republicans, so I grew up hearing many Republican views. After much class discussion and studying the political spectrum, I found I agree with many of the right views.

I believe very strongly in the death penalty. I think certain crimes are punishable only by death. I am strongly against abortion. I believe abortion, no matter what stage the fetus is in, is murder. I also believe government should stay out of people's lives as much as possible.
