LEGISLATIVE PROFILES-INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS

Democrats

LINDSAY L.

My name is Lindsay. I was born at the DuPage County hospital. I have lived in Bloomingdale and West Chicago. I went to two elementary schools: L.C. Johnson and Turner, West Chicago Middle School, and now WCCHS. I really like German and English classes. I ran track for 3 years, played basketball for 4 years, and played softball for 5 years. I like reading books, listening to music, and being with my friends. In the future I want to go to college and then join the Peace Corp.

I believe that I am a Democrat. I don't agree with everything that Democrats do, but most of them. I think that the Republicans are too caught up in money. They don't care about the common man like the Democrats do. The Democrats want the people to have equal rights, and I like that.

I support women having the choice of abortion if they so choose. It is their body, and if they feel that it would be bad for them to carry the baby, then they should have the choice to an abortion. I don't believe that the tax payers money should stay in their district. If other schools are suffering then they should get help. Each child should have the right to equal education, and if they don't want to take advantage of the education then that is their own choice but it is there for them if they so want it. One of the democratic view I don't share is that of capital punishment. They should take the lives of those who decide to take others lives. Because I don't fully agree with all of the Democratic side's views, I think I am a very moderate Democrat.

CORIE B.

My name is Corie. I am seventeen years old and am currently a senior at West Chicago High School. My family is relatively small. I have just one brother, Ryan who is a junior at Illinois State University, and a lovely set of parents, Lorel and Tim. Next year I'll be joining my brother at ISU and will study art communications.

I consider myself a moderate democrat, perhaps it was my parents doing, but I like to believe it was my choice to side with the rights of the people. I believe in a woman's right to abortion, because if a parent knows the life they would provide would be anything less than satisfactory, it is in the best interest of the child to be. I also side strongly with assisted suicides involving terminally ill patients. I think that if one gives consent we should abide by their wishes and end their suffering.

I hope these points will be considered in the simulation and the democrats can remind those who have forgotten, why this nation was created.

MARIA H.

Maria was born in 1980, in the state of Zacatecas Mexico, but raised in the city on Long Beach, state of California for 12 years. She now resides in the town of West Chicago in the State of Illinois for 5 years. Her experience living in both those states was a learning experience. Job conditions was one of the main reasons for Maria and her family to move to Illinois. It is very hard to get a stable job in California. There was also a lot of violence going on, especially in the city of Los Angeles. Gang related problems, crimes, police brutality for no cause, problems with people crossing the border to come to this places for better living condition, and others. Illinois has many of this events going on as well. There are many crimes in the city of Chicago and gang related problems as well. That has made her be stronger in fighting for what she believes.

She supports the majority of the democrats points of view. She believes that the people who come to this country illegally should have the right for equal opportunities as any other US citizen. Also she believes that children whowere born here in the US, but that have parents who are illegally living here in the US, should have the right for an education. One other view in which Maria agrees is Gun Control. She believes that guns should not be allowed because the more guns we have the more crimes there will be. As you can see Maria's believes are more based to believe she is to the right. She rates her self as being LEFT of the political Spectrum. So in conclusion she is a DEMOCRAT.

CONNIE P.

Hello my name is Connie , I was born at Central Dupage Hospital in Winfield. I live in Carol Stream, but I use to live in Bloomingdale. I attended Central School, Evergreen, Benjamin Middle, and now West Chicago High School. My favorite classes are math and my business class. I like to cheerlead, roller blade, and hang out with my friends. Right now I work at Central Dupage Hospital in the Midwest Pathology Billing department. My future plans are to go to a four year college and major in law or marketing management.

I feel that I fit in to the democratic side for the most part. I am really moderate though. I agree with a few things that the republicans believe in. I do however believe that there should be equal distribution of wealth, more support for the workers, business should be regulated, and I believe in a strong central government.

Some issues I strongly agree with are support of the workers, I think everyone should get paid equally, and that there should be a strong central government. There are however two issues I do not believe the same as the democrats; abortion and the death penalty. I think for no reason should a woman have an abortion, but I also think that if you kill someone you should also be put to death.

TROY E.

I was born in Winfield Illinois , in 1980. Attended Winfield Middle School from kindergarten to eighth grade. I am currently enrolled at West Chicago Community High School as a senior. My favorite subjects include History and English. Some hobbies are listening to and creating music , thinking , and hanging out with friends. I plan to attend Southern Illinois University for four years. Majoring in either business economics or administration.

I am a Democrat for several reasons. I agree with most of the underlying principles of the party. One example of this is I believe the federal government should have more power than the individual states. I also think the distribution of wealth should be more evenly divided in this country. Considering this and other views i have , I would place myself on the far left side of the political spectrum.

As far as issues go , I fall entirely on the left side's point of view. I feel very strongly about the issue of welfare and the distribution of wealth. In my opinion , we have too high of a standard of living to have the homeless problem that we have today. There is also a large gap between the lower and upper class , and its is still growing. I am in favor of keeping our existing system of welfare , and increasing social programs. Education is also a very important issue for me. I think we should increase funding on a national level , it shouldn't be decided on the wealth of individual counties. All schools shouldn't be equal , but those counties which are prospering , should contribute money towards those which have less. Gun control is also a very controversial issue. Today we have states which allow individuals to carry conceal weapons. America is a violent place , and we need further regulation for firearms. These are some of the issues I feel strongly about.

CANDI W.

My name is Candi, I was born at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield. I have lived in Winfield for my whole life with my mom. My dad now lives in West Chicago. Both of my parents are happily remarried. I attended both Winfield Elementary and Middle Schools. I am currently in Concert Choir and Jazz Choir. I play one sport, which is softball. I plan to go to a four year college, probably at Ball State University.

I am a moderate democrat. I am very much against the death penalty and also believe that the government should regulate things that go on in business, whether they be private or commercial. I am very concerned about how unequally minors, teenagers, are treated.

I think my main concern, while in government, is to gain rights that are unfairly taken away from minors. Some of these rights consist of banking rights and curfew. Another view that I would like to see addressed is capital punishment. I feel that it is wrong, but would be a very good subject to debate.

ADAM J.

My name is Adam. I was born in West Chicago in 1979. My family and I moved to Carol Stream when I was seven and back to West Chicago when I was fourteen. I have attended starting with preschool; Tick-Tock, Gary School, Carol Stream School, Jay Stream School, Stratford Junior High, West Chicago Junior High, and West Chicago Community High. My favorite sport is baseball. Football, Hockey and and Drag Racing are the second, third, and fourth best sports in the World. My future plans include: going to the UofI to major in Business Communications, sky diving bungi jumping and winning the D.V.C. (in baseball) .

I am a way right Democrat who actually believes America is the best country in the World. I believe that the National Anthem is the greatest song ever written. I think the Constitution of the United States is the best document ever written. I also think that the Bill of rights should be interpreted very narrowly. I feel Affirmative Action is hindering the American economy. Jobs should be based on a persons abilties not his race or color. I also believe that government should stay out of business allowing them to make their own desicions. I believe in the traditional Amercan values: patriotism, hard work, and family values.

BRIAN R.

My name is Brian , I was born in Wheaton Illinois. I have lived in Wheaton then West Chicago my whole life. I attended Plesent Hill for one year then moved to Indian Knoll School. After that I went to West Chicago Junior High School, and I am presently attending West Chicago High School. My hobbies and interests include racing cars, playing basketball, and plane out hanging out with my friends. My future plans include hopefully racing cars eithr proffession or recreation. Also including a job that I'm happy at and get payed lots of money.

I think that I'm actually democrat but also a moderate democrat I believe in the views to the left but also some to the right. Reasons why I say I'm that is because I'm strongly for leaglization of Mariguana not just for parting or whatever for many other reasons too. I'm also pro-choice I believe that if the mother can't afford it then maybe it would be for the good. One example why I say I'm moderate is because I think that maybe after two months they can't . So they would have two months to find out and decide.

PHILIP B.

My name is Philip. I was born on March 10, 1980 at Central Dupage Hospital. I had lived in Hanover Park till I was seven years old. I then moved to West Chicago and still living here. Currently, I attend West Chicago Community High School as a senior. After gruaduating, I plan to go to DeVry to study abut computers and then later be an electric technician for computers. On my free time, I spend time with my friends and agressive in-line skate.

I am not the kind of person that is really into politics but if you ask me, I'm a moderate liberal, or in other words, a Democrat. On the political spectrum I'm pretty much in the middle but I kind of tend to lean to the left, because I belive in democrat beliefs such as: equal rights for everyone and stong beliefs in the rights of the individual. Although I am a democrat I still believe in some of the conservative beliefs such as: capital punishment, the flat tax, and I am pro-choice up to a certain extent.

The issues that I strnly believe in are the legalization of the Morning After Pill, the legalization of marijuana, and to legalize the right for in-line skaters, skateboaders, and bikers to skate or bike in towns. I stongly belive in UB-46 because I belive in pro-choice and because I think that this pill is very helpful, just like any other protection. I also belive in the legalization f marijuna because this plant can be taxed for the U.S. to make more money and I believe that marijuana is nt as harmful as alcohol. Last, but not least, I think that roller bladers, bikers, and skateboarders are nt being treated fairly because they cannot skate or bike in any kind of town. I dont think that this if fair because skating r biking is like any other sport or hobby.

LAURA M.

My name is Laura. I was born at Lutheran General Hospital in Illinois. For my whole life I have lived in Carol Stream Illinois. So far I have been to three different schools, Evergreen Elementary School, Benjamin Middle School, and West Chicago Community High School. My favorite subject has always been science. Some of my interests are playing volleyball, dancing, reading, and working at Taco Bell. Next year I plan to attend Northern Illinois University to major in Psychology. Some day I hope to get into Criminal Psychology and help figure out the minds of our top criminals.

I am a true democrat. I believe this because I support almost all of the issues that the Democrats are fighting for and I am very strongly opposed to the Republicans way of thinking. I believe that this country should have a central government that has more power than the state governments do over the decision of our lives.

I strongly support the idea of pro-choice because its a women's body and she has every right to do what she wants to with it, The government has no right to interfere with the personal issues of a women's life. I also strongly believe that the country's wealth should be equally spread out. The people who have a lot of money never realize how hard others of us work for what small amounts of money we have. Lastly I believe in the death penalty but only after a certain amount of time has passed and the person has had a chance to appeal their case.

Republicans

HILARIA G.

My name is Hilaria , I was born on January 27, 1997 at Memorials Hospital in Chicago. When I was a little girl I use to live in Chicago then moved to West Chicago and have been living here for 10 years. The school's I have attended are Gary School, Middle School, and WCCHS my favorite subjects are Math and English. My first job is as a housekeeper at DuPage Convelecent Center I enjoy this job because I get to meat new people and I have been working there for 3 years. My future plans are to become a police officer and attend Collage of Du Page.

I support the Republican Party. The reason that I have chosen republican because I believe in strong states right also in lowering taxes I don't think that we should pay to much taxes.

I strongly support lowering taxes because all that government does with the money is to spend on other minor things rather than on more important things that are needed. I oppose government regulating business because it would be harder to get a job. I would most likely support republican issues.

DENISE S.

I was born in Winfield on March 21, 1980 at Dupage County Hospital. I have never lives anywhere besides West Chicago. I went to Indian Knoll, West Chicago Junior High, and know I'm at West Chicago Community High School. My favorite subject is child Development, because I love kids. I don't really have any hobbies that I can think of. My plans for the future are to go to some college not to far to become a Physicians Assistant.

I think my party affliction is Republican. I think I am a Republican because I don't agree with government interfering with business as much as they do, and I don't agree with higher taxes. I think I'm a moderate republican because I don't agree with some of their ideas. Like some of their affirmative action laws, and abortion laws.

I strongly support government staying out of business. I think business owners have a right to say how they run their business. I also don't agree with higher taxes. Sharing money with people is a good thing to do but their should be a different way to do it. I do agree that women should have a right to have a abortion if they want to. It is their choice. Women should have a right to choose.

CASSANDRA A. K.

My name is Cassandra A. K. I am the oldest out of five children. I have worked at a pet store for two years. I have lived in Carol Stream for the majority of my life that I can remember. I've attended Benjamin Middle School, and gone to West Chicago Middle School for three years. I intend to go to Illinois State University, where I would like to major in zoological sciences. As for hobbies I enjoy reading and working, believe it or not.

I am a Republican. Looking at different affairs, I am led to believe this because I think that if you have the ingenuity to start your own business, than you should be able to get your own pay. The government should not be able to take away the money that you earned. They didn't put up any of the tears and sweat, they shouldn't get the benefits. I also think that I am a Republican, because the capital punishment issue, if they kill then there is no point in having them here for society. There is no point in the nation paying for their good eating, their education, and their right to live. The political spectrum would put me in the middle of the right side.

So many issues that I feel strongly on....and so little time. First of all, let's look at capital punishment, although it was already discussed, it's one of my strongest issues. I don't think that if you kill somebody, anybody, then you should die. Why should you get to enjoy blue skies and the sun if the 12 year old girl you killed doesn't ? Why should you get to avoid the fears and harm of life if everybody else has to ?? The states, I think, should have all the power. The Republicans are NOT against the environment, as many people think, but that the states should have total power to control that, because the people who live in Washington D.C. do not know the problems that we are having in West Chicago, with the thorium. How often do you see Bill Clinton running down the street worrying about cancer ?? All they think in Washington D.C. is, oh here's just another statistic, we'll get there when we get there. I f the states had more power over this than we would get more things accomplished easier and quicker. I am a republican and that's all there is to it.

AMANDA K.

My name is Amanda. I was born in Winfield, Il, I have also lived in Winfield for my entire life. I attended Winfield Elementary and Middle School. For my Freshman and Sophomore year I went to St. Francis High School. I transferred to West Chicago for my Junior and Senior year. My favorite subjects are English and History because I enjoy reading all different kinds of books and I like to learn about past events. My interests are volleyball and softball. After graduation I plan on attending a four year college and majoring in communications.

My party affiliation is a moderate Republican. I am on the Republican side because I am against Affirmative Action, I feel that it is reverse discrimination. Now people are hired because of their race, not for qualifications. I feel that the welfare program needs to be trimmed because too much money is spent on it and it should be encouraging people to get a job. If the period that people receive welfare is restricted then people would need to go out and find a job. I am for the death penalty, if someone chooses to kill another they don't respect life and tax payers should no t be responsible for supporting them. They should not be able to serve a life sentence for murder in luxury. I am a moderate because I am pro-choice, I feel that it is the woman's choice although I think that there should be more restrictions. I think that there should be a ban for partial birth abortions because the woman actually gives birth to the child and then it is killed. I also support gun control, if more laws are made to control guns violence rates would go down. There should be more restrictions to be able to obtain a gun.

HEATHER K.

I was born in Winfield at DuPage County Hospital on November 21,1979. I have always lived in West Chicago. I attended Gary school, West Chicago Junior High, and now West Chicago High School. My favorite subjects are math and English. I work at the after school program for the Park District. My future plans are to go to college, and study business.

My reason for being a Republican are that we want to have lower taxes. I also think that there should be equal power between the states. I also think that we should not have as many regulations on what business should do and should not do.

I do not really think that we should have abortion, but I feel that it should be up to the person to decide if she wants to have an abortion. If we do not give people the right to have an abortion then they just might go to someone else to have the abortion that might not know what they are doing. There are some people who want to eliminate bilingual education. I think that there is a need to having bilingual education, because having bilingual education can help the people who do not know how to speak English. The bilingual education can help the people who did not know how to speak English pass school, and be able to get a job. I think that the bilingual education should also be responsible to teach them how to speak English.

BRIAN P.

My name is Brian, and I was born in Chicago, Illinois. I have lived in Carol Stream, Illinois all my life. I attended grade school at Evergreen, and then I attended Benjamin Middle School. I am currently attending Community High School where my favorite subject is French. I hold down a part-time job at a gas station, and I am part of Math Team, Scholastic Bowl, and French Club. I also like to play basketball. After high school, I plan to attend a four-year university and earn my degree in education.

I am a Republican. I oppose a strong federal government because the government doesn't always know what is best for each individual state. This places me to the right of the spectrum. I also believe we should look out for our interests in the world before we help out others. The other countries have their own governments to solve problems. How can we advance in the world if we are constantly helping everyone else. This, too, places me to the right of the spectrum. I also oppose abortion which is another conservative viewpoint.

I strongly support the Republican view on abortion. Abortion is legalized murder and complete disrespect for life. If you don't want the child, at least put it up for adoption. I strongly disagree with the liberal view on affirmative action. It's impossible to make up for past wrongs. Affirmative action simply exploits the differences in gender and race which amounts to nothing more than reverse discrimination. I strongly support welfare reform. For too many people, welfare has become a way of life. Welfare should be nothing more than a start for those at the lower end of the social ladder. To support generations of people on welfare is an extravagant waste of tax dollars.

AMANDA Y.

My name is Amanda Y. I've lived in Aurora for the first year of my life. From there my family moved to West Chicago. I've lived here for the rest of my seventeen years. I've attended Mc Auley School from Kindergarten to third grade. From there I went to Indian Knoll Elementary School from third grade until sixth grade. I've attended West Chicago Junior High and now I'm finishing my senior year here at West Chicago Community High School. I'm mostly interested in horses. I also enjoy the company of children. I work for West Chicago Park District in the after school program.

According to the majority of my views, I'm a republican. Although, I also have a few democratic views. I think that there should be a narrower interpretation when it comes to the Billof Rights. People take advantage of their rights and abuse them. I also think that if there were more family values, then this world wouldn't be so corrupted.

Issues I have thoughts about are abortion and gun control. I'm both pro-choice and pro-life when it comes to abortion. Personally I'm pro-life; but I can't tell someone else what to do with their body, so in that situation I'm pro-choice. I really feel that there is way too much crime on the streets. I think that guns should be carried only by on duty law enforcement officials.

TRISHA T.

My name is Trisha, I was born in Atlanta, Georgia on November 27, 1979. I moved to Illinois when I was 6 months old, because that is where my parents are originally from. I went to Trinity Lutheran Pre-school,Turner Elementary school, West Chicago Junior High, and am currently at Community High School. I'm interested in playing the clarinet, playing soccer, and just having fun!! I don't know where I want to go to college, but I would like to major in Horticulture Science and hopefully own my own garden shop on the country side some day. I would then like to raise my family and live peacefully.

I have declared myself a Republican because I believe in many of the same beliefs as many Republicans. I am a Christian and I know that Republicans have very strong morals and beliefs. I believe that American should come first and that we need to worry about our own problems before we help others. I do not believe in Abortion, thus I am Pro-life. On the other hand I do believe in the death penalty, but there is a difference between killing an innocent child and killing a person who has committed horrible crimes. My family is very much Republican and their views strongly influence me.

I am a very conservative person and many of my ideas are those of people who would fall to the right. I told you that I am Pro-life and the reason I believe this is because there are many other options out there besides Abortion. Most Abortions are done because people don't want a family at this time and it is their fault for getting into this position in the first place. Now I'm not saying that all people made an oops, because their are those who were raped, but like I said there are many options out there. America should always come first when we have problems with other countries. America has lost all its pride and we need to work on this because it is what is digging us into a deeper hole. These are just a couple of examples of why I am a Republican, there are still may more but I won't get into that.

HENRYKA A.

My name is Henryka and I was born in Windfield, but both of my parents are from Mexico. I have lived most of my live in here and the other five years I lived in Mexico. When I was ten I started to go to bilingual clases at Pioneer and Gary School. Math has always being my strongest and favorite subject. Most of the time when I have extra time I enjoy listening to spanish music, drawing, and writing letters. After school I worked in the West Chicago Public Library as a page for ten hours a week. I hope to attend to Texas A&M University and get a career as an architect.

I am a Republic because I believe in family values and reedom of speech. I think that if people work hard to get their money, they should not have to give one third of their check to the government. Government would still get a lot of money if they reduce taxes. Also this would reduce government spending on things that are not really necessary and focus more on the economy. Finally, I believe its the right of the people to decide on the price, government should not dictate.

I strongly support flat taxes because I think that people

AMANDA O.

My name is Amanda ; I was born at Delnor Community Hospital in Geneva on June 22,1980.

I have attended three schools: Gary Elementary School, West Chicago Junior High School and West Chicago Community High School. After I graduate this year I plan on attending Northern Illinois University in Dekalb, where I will study medicine.

My party affiliation at the present time is a very moderate republican. I believe in a lot of the things that republicans do but I also have some democratic views. Some of the republican views that I agree with are that there should be lower taxes, the government should be small and there should be more power to the states.

There are many issues that I feel very strongly about. One of these is the issue of abortion! I believe that the law should be pro-choice. I think that a woman should have the right to determine if she wants to have an abortion or not. There are many different cases where the woman would want to have the baby aborted, such as rape. But if two people decide to have sex they should be aware of the consequences. Another issue that I feel strongly about is that of prayer in school. I believe that a student should be able to pray in school if he or she wants to. If someone doesn't want to pray they don't have to but those who want to should have the chance to.
