LEGISLATIVE PROFILES-ENVIROMENT

Democrats

LILIAN G.

My name is Lilian . I born on October 19, 1979 in Tampico state Tamaulipas ,Mexico. I come to the United States when I was 15 years old and I established in West Chicago. I come here because my father had a heart attack, all my pattern family is American but there's ancestor are French with British and all my matern family is Mexican and have a little of Chinese blood.

I am liberal person and some times conservative but much of the time I am very liberal I really thing that the people have the right to do everything that they want but that does not harm others. But before I don't really have any opinion because in my country we don't really have rights you just have right when you have money to pay to the government to protect you like in the north of my state a half of it they sale drugs and the government do anything to stop it but that is just in the part of north because I live in the south and there's not that bad what I thing that why part of my state is in the traffic of drugs is because is close to Texas and much of the people of United States have money to buy drugs so is more percent of people that consume so that's why I thing that both of the country's are guilty.

I am democrat in my strong believe is that I believe that we have the freedom of doing and saying anything we desire and I almost think that we are all equals no matter what race we are. I am talking about this because in this country there is alot of racisim even in the same kind of races we don't like each other like the mexican americans and the mexicans because some of it they thing that are better than us not everybody but someones they are like that.

THUCUC N.

My name is Thucuc N. I was born in VIET NAM. I lived in Saigon city until 1994, after that I moved here and I live in the city of Winfield. I went to Elementary and Junior High in Viet Nam. Now I am going to West Chicago High School, I am senior. The subjects I like the most are math and World Geography. I like basketball, volleyball, and bowling. In the future I plan to go to College of Dupage to take the classes for accountant after I graduate High School.

I seem to be on the left side of the political spectrum because I agreed with some ideas for that side. People can do what they want to do.

I strongly agreed with abortion, distribution of wealth, and gun control. For instance, women have a right to decide that they want an abortion or not, they are free from government interference. Taxes should be taken from the rich people and giving to the poor. Gun control is very important, which would help reduce handgun shooting deaths. The laws give protection and the right to the workers. The programs should be created to reduce the large number of poor people. These ideas brought me to the left side and I became democrat.

BRANDON W.

I was born on March 30, 1980. I lived in Roselle until I was two years old and then I moved to Carol Stream. I went to Evergreen Elementary School in Carol Stream, continued on to Benjamin Middle School, and finally went on to West Chicago High School. Right now I work at Wendy's at Hanover Park (It's not too bad, but I need the cash.) My hobbies include the basic hangin' with friends, going to movies, going to the arcades, and playing pool when I got cash. I plan to go to a college in-state somewhere and major in biological sciences / technology.

I was a democrat before this class started. I chose to be one mainly because of their issues and believe that the masses are more important than any individual, and society before money. I also am a moderate democrat because I have some Republican ideas too.

I believe that abortion should be legal in special cases due to rape, but not because of unprotected sex. The death penalty should be legal because it is a just punishment in some cases and saves room for lesser criminals. Marijuana should be legalized if you do it in designated smoking areas and not operate heavy machinery. Making students say prayers in public schools should be illegal because it is unconstitutional and is discriminatory to some.

KIRSTEN K.

I was born in Winfield, at Central DuPage Hospital. I have lived in Winfield all my life. I went to school at St. John Lutheran, in Wheaton, up until seventh grade. Then I spent seventh and eighth grade at Winfield Middle School, and went on to West Chicago High. I love to spend time with my boyfriend and friends. I work at a one hour photo, One Hour Motophoto and Portrait Studio, in Danada. I plan to attend a four year university to major in Psychology,or Advertising, and minor in Photography.

I am a moderate Democrat. I believe in putting money into programs to help out our fellow Americans. I am against the death penalty. I believe values are constantly changing, and that we need to change with the times. I am also in support of gay rights. However, I am pro-life, and this is what pulls me a little to the right. I agree with the Democrat party with most of the issues.

I am strongly opposed to abortion. I believe it is murder, even if you don't consider the fetus to be a living being, you are still preventing life! I also oppose the death penalty. It costs our country millions of dollars every year. The money could be used on more important things, such as after school programs and helping the homeless.

BESNIKE K.

My name is Besnike K. I was born in Aurora Illinois in Copley Memorial Hospital on May 6, 1980. Within the same year I moved to Westmont then to West Chicago Where I have lived the rest of my life so far. I attended Lincolon Elementary School from kindergarden to fifth grade and sixth grade.

MICHAEL T.

My name is Michael . I was born in Oak Park, Illinois and raised in Chicago, Streamwood and Winfield. I am a student at Community High School Dist. 94. I've worked in a kitchen, dishroom, office and currently in electrical supply. I plan on attending Southern Illinois University, majoring in cinema and photography and minoring in political science, and pursuing a career in the film industry.

I have chosen to affiliate myself with the Democratic party. I have chosen this party because of my beliefs in the rights of Americans. I am in support of all causes that expand or support our rights. I am in favor of a strong central government and in the regulation of business and the protection of American workers.

I am in support of the individual rights such as a persons right to die, a woman's right to choose what to do with her body as she wishes, the rights of minorities all though I am against affirmative action which i believe to be a good intention but reverse discrimination in reality, immigrants rights with some limitations on entrance and gays rights. I believe in the equality of all our citizens as stated in the Constitution. I am against almost all forms of censorship, if you don't like it don't look or listen. I am against any religious involvement in politics or government. I am in favor of arts spending , military spending because of the technology and employment it creates and the commercialization of space and increased scientific and medical spending. I believe the government of the United States needs to be held accountable for its actions and that people need to remember that the government is run by the people for us and our lack of action is our only legitimate complaint.

LAURA G.

My name is Laura . I was born in Mexico on February 12, 1980. Most of my life I lived in Mexico, but then I moved here. I went to Lincoln school when I was a kid and then to the Middle School. I like pizza and Mexican food. I like to play volleyball and hang out with my friends. I plan to maybe return to Mexico next year to finish my education back there or just go to C.O.D. here. I am not too sure about that. Maybe I may have my own place and live on my own. I have plans for the future that I am not sure about yet.

I consider myself as a moderate Democrat. I believe that the flow of the power should be in a central gov. I like to see pass laws that gives rights and protections to the workers. I like to see that wealth is more equally distributed. Finally I like to see that the central gov. should make laws and decisions that apply to everyone.

There are some issues that I support and some that I oppose. Like for example I oppose the death penalty and I prefer criminal rehabilitation instead. I believe that everyone has the right to live and that no one has the right to take somebody else life away. I prefer that people should be sentenced to more years in prison and criminal rehabilitation programs instead. I believe that gov. regulation of private business is necessary to control excess business practices and to secure that all the workers have the same rights. This are some of the issues that I agree and disagree with. This is why I consider myself a moderate democrat.

MELANIE R.

I was born in Joliet, Illinois on November 25, 1980. I now live in Winfield, Illinois, as I have lived my entire life. I attended both elementary and middle school in Winfield, however Winfield does not have a high school so I attend high school in West Chicago. As far as school subjects go, I have always favored math, science, and computer classes. Out of school I spend much of my time with my friends and music. Although I have no real talent in playing music or singing, I enjoy listening to music, because it relaxes me and helps me to deal with the emotional ups and downs of everyday life. Currently, I am unemployed, but my previous jobs include: Marchelloni's Pizza, Dunkin' Donuts, and Target Greatland.

I am a moderate Democrat in favor of government programs funded with tax money. Also, I am pro choice, for capital punishment, for a flat tax, and I want to keep the doors open for immigrants. Because of my beliefs, I place myself in the left-middle of the political spectrum.

Capital punishment, in my opinion, is well thought out choice of punishment for murderers and repeating sex offenders. These types of criminals do not deserve the right to live and be given free room and board, free food, and the free cable that they would receive in prison. I feel that the length of time on death row should be shortened drastically to no more than a year after sentencing. With this belief, I am pulled to the right of the political spectrum. I believe in the right to choice for women regarding abortion. As citizens of the United States, we have been guaranteed certain rights in the Constitution. We have the freedoms to be who we want and make out own decisions, including decisions dealing with abortion. Every woman is her own person and every woman knows what is best for her. Pro choice is the only way if we want to stand by our constitution. this view pulls me to the left of the political spectrum. I also believe that taxes are good when used for government funding of programs to help our fellow citizens who are in need. Without taxes these programs would be severely cut and many would suffer. This is not the time or place for Americans to be greedy and selfish. With this, I am again pulled to the left side of the political spectrum.

MELISSA M.

My name is Melissa M. I was born in Joliet Illinois and I lived there for five years. Ever since then I live here in West Chicago. I went to elementary school at Pioneer and after that to the WC Junior High. I started high school here at WCCHS but later I went to the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy for my sophomore and party of my junior year. After a quarter of my junior year I returned to WCCHS. In my spare time I usually work. I have a job at Family Foods as a cashier. After high school, I plan on going to college and eventually becoming a pediatrician.

I consider myself a moderate democrat. I chose this because I believe the government should be involved in helping out the people who need it. The democratic party makes many programs that help when the less fortunate need them. Another reason for my choice is that liberals look out for the worker. They also believe in affirmative action. The reason for being moderate is because I believe in traditional values which according to the political spectrum is conservative, or republican.

Some issues that I feel strongly about are abortion and immigration. I feel abortion is murder and most of the time babies are aborted due to carelessness and irresponsibility. Immigration is also something that I am for. What I do not agree with are the regulations that are being made in order to make it harder for the Hispanic population to immigrate to the United States. These new republican regulations are separating families causing many to take extreme measures in order to be able to provide a better way of life for their families.

ELIZABETH P.

My name is Elizabeth Perez and I was born in Michoacan, Mexico. I lived six years in Mexico and then moved to the United States. I have lived here ever since. I attended kindergarten in Mexico and attended Gary, Indian knoll, Pioneer, and Turner elementary schools in West Chicago. I attended West Chicago Junior High. My favorite subjects used to be math and now it has become English. I like to read, dance, listen to music and watch movies. I have a job as a cashier. I plan to attend C.O.D and then attend a university.

I chose to be a democrat but not an extreme liberal. I support a central government verses power to the states. This country began as a decentralized government and failed. We need to have a strong central government to ease in decision making during times of need. A stronger central government also means a stronger government overall. I also believe in distribution of wealth. If this country does not provide some basis for education and other public funding to those areas which are deficient in resources the country will divided into two classes the richer will get richer and the poorer will get poorer. If this happens in the long run it will drain the country's economy slowing down its progress and to reverse this would mean spending massive quantities of money that will have to come from the rich (republicans).

I strongly support business regulations by the government. If the business are not regulated than the workers will be taken advantage of. My example of this would be the book the Jungle. In this book we see true examples of how the workers are taken advantage of-they worked in deplorable conditions with almost no pay. There were no regulations for safety, age, or working hours. We have to think that if all these people want is profit then what is the quality of their products going to be? Another issue which I believe is in prisoner rehabilitation. Most people in prison are young adults who if are only kept in prison will come out and become the drags of society. Instead there should be rehabilitating programs. If republicans want to put harsher terms on them then they will have to pay more taxes to keep them in prison. I also agree that abortion to continue to be legal but with more restrictions. Abortion should not be used as a form of birth control. The reason why I consider myself a more moderate democrat is because there are issues which I will not support whether they are democratic or not. For instance, gun control, there should be greater gun control. Or marijuana should not become legal because it will only harm society instead of helping it.

Republicans

JAMES H.

My name is James , I was born in Winfield and I have lived in Many places including Germany. I have attended West Chicago Junior High, WCHS, Franklin Middle School, and Hawthorne Elementary. My favorite subjects are: Art and Math. I play basketball and collect valuable basketball cards. My interests are girls and cars. I previously worked at Jewel but now I work for a landscaping company. My future plans are to go to college and study art or how to become a computer technician.

I pretty much considered myself as a republican, I think. I agree with both democratic and republican issues such as pro choice and the death penalty, but I'm more on the republican side, I think.

I think the death penalty is a good idea because it keeps people from killing more. The death penalty scares people and nobody wants to die so they don't commit as many murders. I believe that people should be rewarded for their duties and government should stay out of businesses.

BRIAN K.

My name is Brian . I was born in Illinois , kentucky , and Georgia . I attended military school in georgia but up here I went to glen hill , evergreen , benjamin , and west chicago. I have no favorite classes that are required courses and the electives I liked have been dismantled . My hobbies are restoring my truck and my 56 pontiac with my dad . My interests areelectrical egineering , and computer telecomunications . I only have had one job at central dupage hospitol I mostly did warehouse work . my future plans are just simply to make over 250,000dollars a year. I beleive I am a republican because I beleive in more of the issiues that the republicans support . Such as the gun control I hate people that want to infringe on my second amendment , and i like the death penalty but other choices I couldgo either way on depending how I feel .I don't really like the fact of gays in the military but the pro choice bill would be okay with me , I realy don't like the way government pushes it's way into buisness but I don't beleive the government should be weaker than the states the majority of my of my issiues are republican but some issuies like prochoice are democratic and I strongly agree with them.

DARCIE W

My name is Darcie , and I am currently a senior at West Chicago Community High School. I was born on August 14, 1980, and lived in Schaumburg, Illinois until I was ten months old. Then I moved to West Chicago where I now live. I went to preschool in Naperville, Indian Knoll Elementary School, the West Chicago Junior High, and now the High School. My favorite classes are math, interior design, and mechanical drawing. I am also involved in other activities such as volleyball, softball, FBLA, Student Council, and band. This past summer I worked as a lifeguard at the Prairie Oaks Family Aquatic Center in West Chicago. In the past few years the field of architecture has really grabbed my attention. I hope to attend the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign and major in architecture.

I classify myself as a moderate Republican. I have many viewpoints from both sides of the political spectrum, but one main idea of the Republicans helped me choose. I believe that power should be mostly concentrated on the state and local levels. I find that issue to be one of the most important ones.

One issue I strongly disagree with is Affirmative Action. Although it was invented for a good purpose, it really causes more discrimination. One person may be more qualified for a certain job than another person, but they will not be hired because they belong to a majority race. One issue I hold a Democratic viewpoint on is abortion. I believe it is a woman's choice what happens to her body. Although I would discourage someone from getting an abortion, I believe it is ultimately her choice. An issue on which I hold a Republican point of view is the death penalty. I agree that it should be a consequence of certain crimes. One other issue which I hold a Democratic point of view on is gay rights. Homosexuals are still human beings, and they should have all the rights the rest of us do. This includes marriage and military rights. One more Republican issue I believe in is lower taxes. Many people claim that taxes are needed to support programs for the poor, but I believe the poor can be supported without raising taxes. People should be given the choice to donate money. If it comes out of taxes people have no choice how much money is donated or where there money is donated to. If the people are given a choice, they can donate their money when they went to, where they want to and how much is donated.

MICHAEL B.

My name is Michael. I was born in Evansville, Indiana on August 12, 1980. My family moved here when I was three months old. I went to Turner School for K-6, stopped at the junior high for two, and now I'm here. I work at Ace Hardware, and in my spare time I do whatever there is to do. In the future I want to make money and make a change somewhere because this country is terribly off track.

I am a Republican, the reason for this is that Republicans have decency. Republicans do not support gay marriages or baby genocide,a.k.a. abortion. The left side says we can't own guns, but killing babies is all right. According to the Republican philosophy you have to earn your money, not just have it handed to you. Also, when you earn that money, you get to keep a decent amount of it. Rush Limbaugh has great points if people would listen to him, but no one takes seriously because he was demeaned by tree-hugging liberals.

I strongly oppose gay marriages and abortion because they are huge signs of moral

bankruptcy and just plain wrong. I also hate to pay tons of taxes to support lazy people, because i need that money. I'm not an extremist, this is the way it should be.

KATIE D.

My name is Katherine and I was born on July 29, 1980 in Winfield, IL and have lived there all seventeen years of my life. As a youngster, I attended Winfield Elementary School K-5 and 5-8 was in the Middle School right across the street. Now I am currently a Senior at West Chicago High school. I enjoy playing sports, especially basketball and volleyball, but I couldn't play them through the school because I got a job waitressing at a retirement home. I plan to attend college and whatever happens from there happens.

On the political spectrum I find myself leaning towards the Republican side. I consider myself more of a moderate Republican than anything else. On issues that we discussed in class, I found out that I had views about the issue that Republicans would have. For example, when we discussed whether or not we should send our tax revenue out of our district to aid another district in schooling or what not, I felt that I was against that. Our money should stay within our own district. Republicans strongly believe that people have a right to their profit. They believe strongly in Economic rights while on the contrary, Democrats would like to see money more equally distributed.

On the issue of Abortion I would have to say that I strongly support it. I believe that the individual woman should have the right to choose, that decision should not be made up for her. I think that it would be wrong to have laws that prohibit women from taking forth in Abortions. Relating to the political spectrum, I think that I side with the Republicans once again.

JASON N.

I was born in Chicago and lived on the north side till I was 4. My family then moved to Elk Grove where I attended school at Byrd Elementary till 5th grade. We then moved to West Chicago and I went to school at Benjamin Middle School. School doesn't interest me too much, but I love skateboarding and punk music. In the future I plan to ride for the Plan B skateboard team, and make lots of money playing drums in the first punk band from West Chicago.

Since the first day of Government class I have thought I was a republican. I still am a republican, just a moderate conservative. I agree with a lot of the issues the Republican side supports, and like a lot of republican politicians such as Ronald Reagan.

I Believe in power for the states and am against the government regulation of business. I think that the government has too much power and that power should be divided equally. Although the issue of gun control is more Democratic, I strongly believe in that there needs to more regulations.

STEFANIE F.

My name is Stefanie. I was born at St. Joseph's Hospital in Chicago, Illinois, where I lived for two years. I then moved to Lincolnwood, on the Northside of Chicago. When I was five, shortly following a divorce, my mom, my brother and I moved to Schaumburg. I changed school from Todd Hall where I was a Kindergardner and finished up at Ender Salk. In third grade, I moved again to a different house in Schaumburg. There I went from third to fifth grade at Dirksen. After my mom bought a house in West Chicago, I went to Turner for my sixth grade year. I then attended the middle school and also went on to the high school in which I presently a junior. My favorite subjects have always been art and math. I am currently on the pom pon squad and very involved in dance. For the future, I hope to attend college majoring in Pre-Law and becoming rich and famous.

I am a Liberal Republican. I choose this because of my traditional upbringing. I was taught important values such as honesty, respect and loyalty. I've also always been taught to work for everything and never depend on anyone. Everything I work for is mine and I won't let anyone take that away from me.

I strongly agree with putting the United States first and foremost. How can we help anyone without helping ourselves first. However we still need to keep a strong presence as a world provider and major power. Although I am strongly pro-choice (a topic to the left) , I am for the restricting and limiting practices to rape victims and severe health risks. I also don't agree with gun control. Our Second Amendment allows us that right, so be it. I do feel , however, there should be a waiting period of more that two weeks and a proper usage course with a certified license given at the end. I disagree with equaling out society in terms of personal wealth. If you earned it , it's yours. Which brings up the tax system. The rich are getting away on a free ride, they're the ones that can afford the high taxes, yet they pay less than the middle class. We need to reevaluate the structure of each system and really base the taxes on income with all three classes following the same basic outline.

MARVIN B.

My name is Marvin. I was born in Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield. I have lived in West Chicago all my life. When I was in third grade we moved into a bigger house because we needed more room. The elementary school I attended was Lincoln School. Then I attended West Chicago Junior High for seventh and eighth grades. I am currently a senior in West Chicago Community High which I have attended since eighth grade. Through elementary school my favorite subject was science. Since junior high my favorite subject has been math classes thanks to my seventh grade math teacher. I used to collect baseball cards, but now I have pretty much given that up. I played football and baseball when I was younger and I still play football. I have wrestled since I was turned onto it in eighth grade. Other than sports I am interested in math and computers, especially computer programming. After attending college and studying to become a computer programmer I plan to receive a job as a programmer.

On a majority of the issues I hold a republican view. My parents have played a big role in my choice to be a republican. They are both republican on most issues also, and whenever I ask their opinion on an issue what they give me most of the time are their republican views.

My mom is very big on strong family values and spending quality time as a family. My dad has always told me to do my best and I will come out ahead in the end. He believes that if I work hard for something I will reap the benefits from all the hard work. So my parents' outlook on many things have rubbed off on me, and since their ways have been the ways I have grown up with and come to know as correct I have, in a way, inherited their viewpoints.

JETESA K.

My name is Jetesa , I was born on December 17, 1979 in Aurora I've lived in West Chicago all my life. During first grade through fifth grade I went to Lincoln School. At the end of fifth grade I moved to another part of West Chicago, and I attended Gary School for my last year of elementary school. I went to West Chicago Jr. High for both seventh and eighth grades. I am also attending DAVEA to become a CNA which is a Certified Nurses Assistant. My favorite subject in school is math. My plan for the future is to become a CNA.

I feel that I am a Republican. The reason for my decision is because I have strong feelings on some of the issues having to do with the death penalty. I also believe that the states should have the right to govern. I believe in traditional family values. I also believe the government shouldn't be involved in businesses deciding the price of products.

Issues I would like to talk about are the death penalty. I believe that if you are convicted of a crime you should be put to death and those people would have emidiate death. I also strongly believe in that profit is a reward for good work if you work hard you will become wealthy. Although I'm a republican I have some liberal views. For example I think that taxes are necessary

FRANK C.

My name is Frank . I was born in Carol Stream and have lived in the same house in Carol Stream ever since. I've attended Evergreen school, Benjamin Middle School, and I'm currently Attending West Chicago High School. While at West Chicago, I've played football all four years. My future plans are to go to collage and become an engineer.

I am republican due to my views on political issues. I believe that affirmative action needs to be stopped. It's not fair that a smarter person should be turned down to a person that is a different nationality. America needs to take care of itself before any other state or nation. How can we spend all this money on other nations when we have people here that live on the streets. Also, abortion should be outlawed all together. It's not fair that the baby be punished because the parents didn't want it to be born.

One issue that I totally disagree with is that if a baby of an illegal immigrant is born in the US, that is a citizen by birth. The parents shouldn't even be there in the first place, so why should the child be a citizen? Also, illegal immigrants is something that we need to start getting rid of. They are hurting America. If they are not stopped soon, then could be our down fall.
