COMMUNITY HIGH STUDENTS NAMED SEMI-FINALISTS

IN ARGONNE APS CONTEST

Community High School students John Aube and Dave Bennett have been named semi-finalists in Argonne Laboratories Advanced Photon Source Contest. Both students are juniors from Carol Stream. The contest was open to high school students in Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin. The Community High School team is one of the ten semi-finalists that have until April to complete a prototype of an educational exhibit for Argonne with the possibility of producing Argonne's final exhibit. Sponsoring science teacher Annette Rubino stated she is very proud of their accomplishment.

The school will receive $250 for the students to purchase materials for their prototype. APS Exhibit Design Contest facilitator Fred Hartline said that phase two of the competition will require even greater effort and commitment to planning and design of the prototype. Judges will be looking for technical accuracy, suitability of design, scientific content and concepts and educational effectiveness in choosing the final exhibit. Hartline stated he was "confident that the team will be able to meet the challenge and submit a stunning design and prototype for the contest finals."
