VFW & Auxiliary Award $7,500 to CHS Students

for Voice of Democracy Contest

The West Chicago V.F.W. Post 6791 and the V.F.W. Auxiliary awarded prizes totaling $7,500 to 15 Community High School students who competed in the Voice of Democracy contest. The theme for this year was, "How I Demonstrate My Freedom." The awards were presented at the February 7, 2006 School Board meeting at Community High School. The contest is sponsored annually by the V.F.W. and its Auxiliary.

Kristen Johansen placed first in the competition and went on to compete at the district level. The other winners included Brandi Arwood, Brittany Blanchard, Giana Ferrari, Rachel Howe, Joann Kaczmarczy, Martha Kaczmarczy, Jennifer Kamphaus, Mera Kolisnyk, Jennifer Linsenmeyer, Naiya Panchal, Brian Smith, Ashley Tucker, Brittany Vollmuth and Kimberly Wehr.

CHS social studies teacher MaryEllen Daneels is the Voice of Democracy contest liaison at the high school. "Congratulations to Kristen and the others for their outstanding work and for representing the best that Community High School has to offer," said Daneels.
