Tradition of Community Service

Community High School students have a strong tradition of community service. Shortly before winter break, Community High School Student Government members completed an exciting project in conjunction with the Humanitarian Service Project. The students worked hard at the Wheaton Food Depository and spent time caroling and spending some quality time with the residents at West Chicago Terrace.

The project required the students to pack and count boxes ranging in items from canned and dry goods to toiletries and cleaning supplies. "Student Government members worked diligently, and truly felt the satisfaction of their labor," said faculty adviser Chris Lukas. "It was an absolute pleasure and privilege to help families in need during the holiday season," he said.

At West Chicago Terrace, students sang traditional Christmas songs to the delight of the residents. In addition to caroling, the residents and students had the opportunity to visit while playing a few rounds of bingo. "It was a wonderful evening filled with laughs, entertainment and conversation that everyone seemed to enjoy," said Lukas. "Student Government was thankful for the chance to reach out to the community, especially at this time of year. This was a great experience for our students," he added.
