Community High School Students Take First Place in
THE STOCK MARKET GAME™ PROGRAM
Don Zabelin, a teacher at Community High School District 94 and his winning student team were awarded First Place in the Spring 2005 session of the Stock Market Game™ (SMG) Program, an educational market simulation. Competition between 454 student teams within the Region 1, Grades 9 - 12 Division drew to a close at the end of the semesterís session with the three highest valued portfolios receiving awards.
The winning student team includes Vincent Czernik, Keil Fuchs, Jeff Gilbert and Lindsay Pater. Zabelin and his winning team were recognized with Certificates of Award. The students also received an SMG CD case for their successful efforts. Zabelin received an SMG pocket calculator.
Participating students benefit from learning economic and financial concepts that they will use for the rest of their lives, while having fun investing a hypothetical $100,000 in a real-time portfolio. During the Spring 2005 SMG Session over 15,000 students participated throughout the state. Community High Schoolís winning team also placed second in state. The Stock Market Game™ Program is an investment simulation coordinated for students in Illinois by the Illinois Council on Economic Education, a unit within Northern Illinois University Outreach.
