CHS PRESENTS THE SOUND OF MUSIC  MAY 11-13

 

 

The Sound of Music, the beloved Rodgers and Hammerstein musical about the Von Trapp family, will be performed at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 11, Friday, May 12 and Saturday, May 13 in the Weyrauch Auditorium at Community High School. The story is set in Salzburg, Austria in 1938 and follows a good-natured, flighty novitiate who is hired to care for the seven children of a militaristic, icy, widowed Austrian captain. She ultimately wins the heart of the children and the captain, but their lives are threatened by the encroachment of Nazis.

 

Some of the memorable show-tunes include "Maria," "The Sound of Music," "My Favorite Things," "You Are Sixteen, Going On Seventeen," "Climb Ev'ry Mountain," "Do-Re-Mi," and "Edelweiss." The Broadway show was followed by a highly successful Academy award-winning film in 1965, starring Julie Andrews as Maria.

 

The principal actors include Natalie Ckuj, John Wagner, Lora Vodicka, Davy Taylor, Steve Migliorato, Angie Panozza and Erin Silk. Mary Hafertepe is the director; Brandon Fantozzi is musical director and Steve Governtsen will direct the orchestra. Tickets will be available in the Commons on May 8, 9, 11 and 12 during lunchtimes and at the door.
