The American Association of Physics Teachers (AAPT) convention held July 22-26 announced the winners of this year’s AAPT/Lexmark High School Photo Contest.  Kevin Rosenquist, a senior at Community High School in West Chicago, received First Place for his photo demonstrating Newton’s First Law of Motion. 

 

Each high school was allowed up to fifteen student submissions. From the thousands submitted only one hundred finalists are selected for display at the AAPT convention. Community High School had four student photos selected as finalists. 

 

Annette Rubino, Kevin’s physics teacher, remarked at how persistent Kevin remained at capturing the exact image.  After multiple takes recreating the situation forty times, Kevin felt that he had the image he was looking for.  Mrs. Rubino said, “This year’s photos are extraordinary and my instincts tell me one of these entries will place very highly.”

 

The AAPT/Lexmark High School Photo Contest provides winners with monetary prizes along with gifts.  Kevin Rosenquist will receive $500, a 1-year AAPT Student Membership, and a Lexmark Photo Printer.  Annette Rubino, Physics Instructor, will receive $500 and a $50 gift certificate to the AAPT Store, and her classroom will receive $1,000 and a Lexmark Photo Printer.
