Students of the Month for September 2007

Stephanie Perez & Liliana Perez

The faculty and administration of Communi= ty High School would l= ike to congratulate Stephanie and Liliana Perez for being chosen to share the hono= r of Student of the Month for September. These senior twin sisters pose many individual attributes, most nota= bly, their personal traits, and commitment to service.

Recent members of the= Key Club, the girls have been school ambassadors for two years, participated in= a goal planning session with the Board and attended a leadership academy this fall. Their largest service commitment to the district has been their years of voluntary work done in t= he Assistant Principal’s office. Together they worked a combined total of over 1000 hours within three school years and summers. The= ir jobs include clerical, secretarial, and translation tasks along with other student support services and activities.

Their impressive time= and effort was greatly enhanced by Liliana’s and Stephanie’s person= al character and strengths. Mrs.= Gail Aronoff states, “These young ladies have performed at a level of responsibility, maturity and dedication far beyond their years. Their work place skills, conscienc= e work ethic, and proficiency in English and Spanish have allowed us to raise our level of service to our school community.” Ms. Tammy Henry, former secretary, states, “It was a pleasure having the girls assisting parents and com= munity members. It was obvious their pleasant manner, welcoming attitude and office knowledge was appreciated and respected by anyone who visited the office.”

Beyond volunteer offi= ce work, church activities and babysitting, the girls have demonstrated competency i= n their academic areas. Stephanie has= been nominated for the National Honor Society, and Liliana has been chosen for an internship at the Regional Office of Education.

Stephanie’s fon= dest memory of high school is when Mr. John Highland asked both herself and Lili= ana to participate in the goal planning Board of Education meeting. Her plans after high school are to= apply for a student visa and study outside of the U.S. She would like to study business a= nd some day be in charge of the finances in a compa= ny or business.

Liliana’s fonde= st memory was when she was voted Student of the Month in her ESL class freshman year. She plans to go to College of DuPage for two years and continue = at a four-year university earning a degree in business. She likes working with people and = has dreams of becoming a business teacher.
