BRIAN NELSON NAMED CHS STUDENT OF THE MONTH

MAY 2003

Brian Nelson was recently chosen Community High School Student of the Month for May. Brian is the son of Brian and Tracey Nelson of Carol Stream. His extensive and diverse list of activities and accomplishments made him an excellent candidate for this honor. One teacher describes Brian as "outstanding, attentive to detail, conscientious, helpful to peers. He brings a positive atmosphere to the learning environment."

At school, Brian has been a four-year member of FBLA, serving as vice-president his junior and senior years. He recently was a part of the Community High School website development team that won a state championship and will compete at the national competition in Dallas this summer. He can add this honor to the 2002 state championship he won last year as a member of the Entrepreneurship team.

Brian was an active member in the Adopt-A-Family program and the Variety Show, which has helped raise over $1,500 annually for the March of Dimes. He was also a member of the 2003 State Champion Lifesmarts team that recently finished 4th in the national tournament held in Orlando.

Brian also has a commitment to athletics and school leadership. He has participated in Student Council for two years serving as class vice-president his sophomore and junior years. He has chosen as a student-leader for the DVC Leadership Conference held this past year. His teachers also chose Brian as a school ambassador. Athletically, Brian has competed in track his freshman year and hockey all four years.

Academically, Brian is a member of the National Honor Society and recognized as an Illinois State Scholar. He has the distinction of a four-year place on the High Honor Roll.

Brian is planning to attend the University of Illinois and major in Entrepreneurship.
