Nicholas Gorski and Thomas Wood Named Commended Students

in 2006 National Merit Scholarship Program;

Carl Johnson Goes On as Semi-Finalist

John Highland, Principal of Community High School in West Chicago, announced today that Nicholas Gorski and Thomas Wood have been named Commended Students in the 2006 National Merit Scholarship Program. The principal will present a Letter of Commendation from the school and National Merit Scholarship Corporation, which conducts the program, to these academically talented seniors.

About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the national are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Although they will not continue in the 2006 Competition for Merit Scholarship awards, Commended Students placed among the top five percent of more than one million students who entered the 2006 competition by entering the 2004 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

Highland also announced that Carl Johnson qualified as a Semi-Finalist and will continue on in the competition for the National Merit Scholarships. Carl is the son of Steve and Roberta Johnson of Winfield.

Nicholas Gorski is the son of James and Elizabeth Gorski of Carol Stream. Thomas Wood, a resident of Winfield, is the son of David and Linda Wood.

"We are very proud of these young men," said Highland. "They show exceptional promise and we expect great things from them in the future."
