Community High School Centennial

Homecoming Schedule

Community High School in West Chicago is gearing up for a Homecoming to end all Homecomings to celebrate its Centennial year. In addition to a full schedule of student events throughout the week, there will be a FunFest from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, September 29, which will be open to the public. The event will take place in the field house from 5 to 7 p.m. FunFest provides activities and fun for children in sixth grade and younger. There is no admission charge; tickets for games and activities will cost 50 cents each. An outdoor Pep Rally will follow from 7 to 8 p.m., and the Powder Puff game will begin at 8 p.m. The public is welcome to attend.

On Thursday, September 30, there will be a special showing of the film "Remember the Titans" in the auditorium beginning at 7 p.m. Admission to the all school movie is $1. This event is also open to the public.

On Friday, October 1 at 1:30 p.m. the Homecoming Parade will step off from the high school, travel south on Joliet, east on Hazel to the Middle School, south on Bishop to Forest Avenue to Gary Elementary School and then north again on Joliet to return to the high school. The public is encouraged to attend the parade.

From 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., there will be a reception for all alumni and retired staff in the Commons. (Use entrance H at the south end of the building.) Refreshments will be served, and student Ambassadors will provide tours of the school. Alumni will be asked to record some of their memories in a Centennial Memory Book.

The Wildcats will be taking on the Wheaton North Falcons. The sophomore football game will begin at 5 p.m. The CHS Alumni Association will host an alumni hospitality tent at the south end of the football field beginning at 6:30 p.m. They will provide free refreshments for alumni as well as an opportunity to visit with fellow graduates. The varsity game will begin at 7:30 p.m.

The excitement will build with an outstanding half-time celebration, which will begin with a special surprise. The Community High School Marching Band will present a Latin Jazz show. CHS alumni will be recognized, as will the 1974 State Championship Football team, which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year. The celebration will conclude with an exciting display of fireworks.

The following evening, Saturday, October 2, while the students enjoy their Homecoming Dance at the high school, alumni and staff will be dancing the night away at Dancin' Through the Decades, which will be held at Synergy at 243 Roosevelt Road in West Chicago beginning at 7 p.m. (Some alumni will remember that as the location of the former Back Door Restaurant.) Tickets to the alumni dance cost $25 and will be available through the high school at 876-6556. They will also be sold at the alumni hospitality tent at the Homecoming game and at the door the evening of the event.
