Hispanic Outreach Seminars

Community High School will present a series of Hispanic Outreach Seminars for educators, students and parents over the next several weeks. Nationally acclaimed consultant Dr. Lourdes Ferrer will present the seminars.

Ferrer has worked with Community High School during this school year to help Hispanic students reach their highest academic potential and to identify the causes of the achievement gap between Hispanic and Anglo youth. She has worked with teachers, students and their parents during this time.

Over 250 educators from across the state of Illinois will attend the March 3 seminar, Hispanic Achievement: The Cross-Cultural Divide. Dr. Ferrer will also present the findings of her research at that time. Her work at Community High School has important implications for all schools that serve Hispanic youth.

The February 28 seminar for parents will be presented in Spanish. It will provide parents with a better understanding of how to navigate the American educational system. It will also stress the impact that a quality education has on their children's current and future academic careers.

The February 16 seminar for Hispanic students presents students with a better understanding of the impact that a quality education has on their futures. This session is one in a series of seminars that Ferrer has presented to Community High School students.
