Community High School FBLA Members

Score at National Conference

Community High School's Future Business Leaders of America recently returned from the FLBA National Conference held in June in Dallas Texas. They brought several trophies home with them. The chapter received a second place in the North Central Region for the Most Professional Members. Matt Shambo proudly accepted that award for the chapter.

The group had two individual winners as well. Dominique Scott placed 5th in Impromptu Speaking, and Nick Kuras placed 7th in Computer Applications. "This was a great experience for our students," said FBLA Adviser Nancy Blume. "We had a record number of state champions this year. We had twice the number of qualifiers for nationals as we had last year and three times the number from two years ago. It was a banner year for FBLA at Community High School." The record number of qualifiers required a lot of fundraising by the chapter. In addition to fundraising events held by students, a number of local organizations and businesses contributed funding including the West Chicago Rotary Club, the West Chicago Lions Club, the Winfield Lions Club, the Carol Stream Women's Club, Hoving Disposal and Pal's Care Inc. "The response from the community was heartening," said Blume. "We really appreciate their support."

"Illinois did an outstanding job as a state as well," said co-adviser Mia Wirth. "They placed in the top ten in 19 events. It was an exciting event for us all."
