Community High School Tackles the Digital Divide
On Wednesday, May 12 at 6 p.m., Community High School will be giving away 30 refurbished computers to students whose families have shown financial need.
"Many assignments need to be done on the computer," said Norm Kane, Director of Bilingual Services. "Although prices for computers have been coming down recently, they are still out of reach for our neediest families."
Before getting the computer, the families are required to attend training on how to use the computer in the home. The training will be run by Bilingual teacher Hector Salgado.
Kane said that another set of computers is slated to be given away at a later date. "This is a big effort, and I'm appreciative of all the support from the technology department and our student assistant Ramiro Juarez, who gave up part of his spring break to work on this," said Kane.
