CHS Grads Winners in Best Illinois Prose & Poetry Contest
Three graduates of Community High School District 94 were recently honored in the Fall issue of the Illinois English Bulletin, the journal of the Illinois Association of Teachers of English. They were featured as winners of the contest for "Best Illinois Prose and Poetry." Sarah Bass is recognized for Best Poetry for her poem "The Mistress' Reply," a verse response to Andrew Marvell's famous "To His Coy Mistress." The journal also recognizes the prose work of Kurt Fenner for "The Thief," (Honorable Mention), and the poetry of Thomas R. Wojcicki for "The Gintrac" (Honorable Mention).
These three students graduated from Community High School in June 2002. They produced the honored pieces of writing when they were students in Patricia Santella's Advanced Placement English 4 class. "I'm very proud of Sarah and Tom," said Santella. "I always knew I had very talented students, but it's very rewarding to see their talents acknowledged by others as well."
