KAYLA G.-DEMOCRAT
- I was born at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital on May 13 th, 1995. I grew up in Carol Stream and still live there. Throughout my life, I have traveled to many places. My two favorite places I went to were Singapore and California. My uncle lives in Singapore so I got to travel there twice, once in elementary school for his wedding and the other time in middle school. Traveling out of the country to go there was probably the best experience I have ever had. I have so many other places on my list of places I would love to travel to and at some point in my life I plan on completing that list. My freshman year in high school I played for the volleyball team. I did not play anymore after that because I got a job after school working at a daycare. I worked there for two years then started working at a golf course. I love my job at the golf course. Everyone there is extremely friendly and a lot of fun to talk to. I have also been babysitting for six years now. I love spending time with younger kids. They are so full of life and always cheer me up. For the past two years I have participated in WeGo Buddies. I love participating in WeGo Buddies. I have learned so much about life and appreciate it so much more because of the gifted children in WeGo Buddies. Another club I participate in is Ambassadors. I enjoy volunteering and being able to help out whenever I can. This fall, I will be attending Grand Valley State University. I will be studying Exercise Science for my undergrad and then Physical Therapy for grad school. I am looking forward to meeting new people and being in a new environment. High school has been a crazy experience; however, I am ready to keep moving forward with my life.
- I am a very moderate democrat. I agree with some republican views; however, I agree with far more democratic views. A couple republican views I agree with are the death penalty for serious crimes and the idea of charging teens as adults when it comes to certain crime. When it comes to my democratic views, I feel very strongly about strict gun control, hate crimes, and allowing same-sex marriage. I believe the government plays a huge role in our society. The government is there to help with laws and to help everyone in the country. The government is there to help people live their life and have their needs met. I do believe that people need to work for what they need, but that does not mean that the government should not be there when help is needed.
- When it comes to my political views, I feel very strongly about legalizing same-sex marriage, strict gun control, and keeping hate crime laws. When it comes to the issue of same-sex marriage, I support legalizing it 100%. The big issue with the government and same-sex marriage is that couples are not receiving the same rights as heterosexual couples. Gay couples do not receive certain benefits or the same rights as heterosexual couples. Gay people are no different than straight people. Some say that gay couples go against religious views or the true definition of what marriage actually is, however, the government should not judge a person just because of their sexual orientation. We are all human beings which mean we should not be judged just because of who we are attracted to. Keeping hate crimes is another issue I feel strongly about. I feel that it is extremely unfair to someone if they are discriminated against or physically or emotionally abused just because of their race, religion, color, or even sexual orientation and hate crime laws help protect against that discrimination. The final issue I feel strongly about is strict gun control. I have never liked guns, even if they are for hunting. Guns kill. I think that it should be up to the local and federal government to protect the people. The biggest reason for me feeling this way is mostly because of people with a certain mental illness that could cause them to commit a violent act if they have access to guns. After all of these shootings that have taken place just recently; I do not think that more people should be able to own guns. Doing this may cause more “crazy” people to go out and kill even more people.
