1st Place Win for CHS Economic Challenge Team!

Community High School secured 1^st Place at the State Finals of the Illinois Economics Challenge on March 20^th and now moves on to t= he Central Regional Economics Challenge in Texas.

Two teams consisting= of four economics students each entered the on-line preliminary rounds of the Illinois Economics Challenge in February.&= nbsp; Over 240 students participated in the preliminary round in one of two divisions. Community High School teams were comprised of Shannon Cassello (West Chicago), Kristin Goffinet (Winfield), Priya Shah (West Chicago), and Ania Skorupski (West Chicago) had the second highest score. The team of Jason Foreman (Winfiel= d), Jack McCormack (West Chicago), Jozef Pavnica (Carol Stream), and Stuart Sankovitch (West Chicago) had the highest score in = the State for their division. Wit= h the top scores, both teams qualified for the State Finals. Th= e Community High School teams practiced under = the coaching of Economics teacher Candace Fikis.

On March 20^th, 2009 the Illinois Economics Challenge Sta= te Finals were held at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago. After a microeconomics, macroeconomics and international and current events round, the team of Jason Foreman, Jack McCormack, Jozef Pavnica, a= nd Stuart Sankovitch led the challenge and faced last year’s State champion — Willowbrook High School. The CHS Team won= the State Championship title in the final quiz bowl round. They will now represent the State = of Illinois in the Central Regional Economics Challeng= e, which will be held in Houston, Texas on April 27, 2009, in hopes of winning a trip to New York City for the National Champion= ship on May 16-18.

The Council for Economic Education and The Goldman Sachs Foundation created the National Economics Challenge in 2000 to promote student interes= t in economics, to reinforce classroom instruction, to advance academics and sch= ool spirit, and to reward scholarship. &n= bsp;
